SETTING THE SCENE
Both the Heat and the Hurricanes find themselves in similar positions. Having won half of their six games and sitting in a tie for fifth spot both are in need of an improvement in the second half of the comp to ensure they make it into the playoffs. The Heat come into this clash off the back of two straight victories, one of those in Hobart in the first meeting against the same opponent. In their last outing the Hurricanes were able to defend 180 to beat the Perth Scorchers.
TALKING TACTICS
The Brisbane Heat arguably have the most devastating top 3 in the Big Bash. The Hurricanes themselves have one of the top performers at the top but Darcy Short has been called up to tour India with the Australian ODI squad. Laughlin and Lalor have done a commendable job in leading the attack whilst James Pattinson could be back for the Heat. Swepson is also fresh from being part of the Australian test squad. The men from Hobart don’t have nearly the same quality to call on in the bowling department.
HOW I SEE IT PLAYING OUT
With current form as well as international call-ups working in favour of the home side I struggle to see anything but a dominant display from the Brisbane Heat on Thursday. Wade should return for the visitors but McDermott has been in good form and with Short missing I expect him to be the biggest contributor for the Hurricanes. The home side’s dazzling top three should get them off to a rocket of a start and I’m backing Swepson to return with a spring in his step as well.
