English Premier League Round 10

Leicester vs. Arsenal, Saturday 30 October 13:30

After a 2-1 win in London last week the Foxes now find themselves in ninth place on the table. They have a record comprising of four wins, two draws and three losses and along with Everton they are the fourth highest scoring team in the league with 15 goals. Although they are on a good run at the moment with back-to-back wins in the last two weeks, a poor start to the season has meant that they have just managed to sneak into the top half of the table after nine rounds of football.

Prior to last week’s win against Brentford they pulled off a 4-2 win at home to Manchester United, drew 2-2 away to Crystal Palace, drew 2-2 at home to Burnley and lost 2-1 away to Brighton. Worryingly Leicester have only managed to keep one clean sheet so far this season and have let in at least two goals in four of their last five EPL clashes. It comes as no surprise that they are far from the best defense in the league and they have let in just as many goals as they have scored.

Arsenal picked up a valuable three points at the Emirates last week with their 3-1 win against Aston Villa and are in tenth place on the table with 14 points. They are now undefeated in six games and it’s been quite a dramatic turnaround for Arteta’s men after losing their first three matches of the season. The Gunners have only scored a total of 10 goals so far this season with eight of those goals coming in their last four matches.

Arsenal fans will be hoping that their team’s attack has now been sorted out and that they can up their goal tally as they continue their climb towards the Top 4. Other recent results for the Gunners include a 2-2 win at home to Crystal Palace, a goalless draw in Brighton, a 3-1 win at home to Spurs and a 1-0 win away to Burnley. Despite letting in 13 goals so far this season I reckon their defense is up to scratch now. They have managed to keep three clean sheets in their last six matches and the majority of goals let in (9) came in their first three matches of the season.

In their last five EPL clashes Leicester have won three, Arsenal have won one and there has been one draw. The two sides last met in February this year at the King Power Stadium and Arsenal came out on top in this clash with a 3-1 win. However, this was only the second win for Arsenal in six visits to Leicester since the Foxes rejoined the EPL in 2014.

Prediction

Both sides have been impressive in their recent fixtures after bad starts to the season and this should make for a close match. However, I feel that Arsenal do have the edge here because they have the better defense. Leicester might be able to net one or two against the Gunners but I can see their defense letting them down and costing them the match. We should see goals on both sides in this clash so if you are looking for a little bit of extra value you can take Arsenal for the win and both teams to score or just take Arsenal for the win which is priced at around 2.85.

I also like Aubameyang to score a goal in the match. He is in really good form at the moment with four goals and one assist in his last five appearances for his club. It might also be worth putting a little something on Vardy to score since he has scored four goals in his last four matches against Arsenal, as well as three goals in his last two EPL matches this season.

Victory and Both to Score: yes and Arsenal – 4.80

Anytime Goalscorer: Jamie Vardy – 2.46

Newcastle vs. Chelsea, Saturday 30 October 16:00

Nine rounds into the EPL season and Newcastle are still searching for their first win. They are second to last on the table with four points and have drawn four of their matches while losing five. Despite being at the bottom of the table the Magpies have managed to score 11 goals this season and have found the net in all but one of their fixtures so far. Instead it’s their defense that has let them down by letting in a total of 20 goals – the second worst in the league after Norwich. They are yet to keep a clean sheet this season and unless they can sort out their defense it’s looking likely that they will remain in the relegation zone for the foreseeable future. In their most recent matches Newcastle drew 1-1 away to Crystal Palace, lost 3-2 at home to Spurs, lost 2-1 away to Wolves, drew 1-1 away to Watford and drew 1-1 at home to Leeds.

Chelsea are back at the top of the EPL table with 22 points after their 7-0 thrashing of Norwich last week. The Blues have a very impressive record of seven wins, one draw and just one loss so far this season. They have scored a total of 23 goals with 14 of those goals coming in their last five matches. Having only let in three goals this season their defense is still the best in the league and as solid as ever. Clean sheets are a regular occurrence for Tuchel’s men and the Chelsea defense has proven to be one that is hard to crack. The Blues are currently on a three match winning streak and are looking more lethal than ever going into their clash on Saturday. Prior to last week Chelsea won 1-0 away to Brentford, won 3-1 at home to Southampton, lost 1-0 at home to Manchester City and won 3-0 away to Spurs.

In the last five EPL matches between the two sides Chelsea have won four and Newcastle have won one. The last clash at St. James’ Park saw the Blues winning 2-0, while Newcastle’s last victory was at the same venue back in January of 2020.

Prediction

Comparing the two sides is like comparing chalk and cheese. It’s pretty clear that the Blues are the superior team here on both attack and defense and this match should be a real walk in the park for them. It would be interesting to see if Newcastle can continue their streak of finding the net for their seventh consecutive game, but against the tight Chelsea defense it’s going to be a tough task. Chelsea managed to put seven goals past Norwich last week and I think that this match might just be another goal fest considering the Magpies’ poor defensive record.

You can get just under even money for Chelsea to win and over 2.5 goals which provides slightly better value than taking over 2.5 goals on its own. Although both teams to score is a tempting bet when looking at Newcastle’s scoring record I am going to give it a miss this time around. Instead I will opt for Mason Mount to ride the momentum from his hat-trick last week and score again in this match, while I think the price of Ben Chilwell to score is just too juicy to pass up considering he has scored in the Blues’ last three EPL matches.

Anytime Goalscorer: Mason Mount - 2.32

Tottenham vs. Manchester United, Saturday 30 October 16:00

Tottenham’s two match winning streak came to an abrupt end last week when they lost 1-0 away to West Ham in their London derby. They now find themselves in sixth place on the table with 15 points and look to get some momentum back with a win on Saturday. Prior to last week Spurs won 3-2 away to Newcastle, won 2-1 at home to Aston Villa, lost 3-1 away to Arsenal and lost 3-0 at home to Chelsea. They have managed five wins and four losses this season which doesn’t look too bad on paper, but Nuno’s men would be disappointed with their defense that has let in a total of 13 goals and would feel that some of those losses could have ended in draws.

When looking at their results you can see that in all their losses they have failed to find the net which almost gives the sense that once they fall behind on the scoreboard they give up on the match and except their fate. The matches they have won have only been by a one goal margin which has made for some unconvincing football for their fans. It would be great to see Tottenham win by a margin greater than one goal and Saturday presents a perfect opportunity to do so against a Manchester United team that are in serious trouble right now.

The Red Devils have slipped all the way down to seventh spot after being hammered 5-0 by the Reds at Old Trafford last week. It was one of the biggest defeats ever for Manchester United at the theatre of dreams and has just added more pressure to Solskjaer. His men are now winless in their last four EPL matches and they have missed out on some valuable points against the likes of Leicester, Everton and Aston Villa. Their last win was all the back in the middle of September when they beat West Ham 2-1 in London and feels like it was in a different lifetime.

Prior to this they also managed a 4-1 win at home against Newcastle, a 1-0 win away to Wolves, a 1-1 draw away to Southampton and a 5-1 win at home to Leeds. After five rounds of football United were undefeated, but now four rounds later they are without a win and look like a side that’s in serious trouble. The Red Devils will try once again to end their winless run this Saturday and kickstart their recovery as they look to return to the Top 4. The good news for United is that they are undefeated in their last two away clashes to Tottenham and this could work in their favour if they can forget about last week and move on.

In their last five EPL clashes Manchester United have won three, Tottenham have won one and one match has ended in a draw. The last time these two sides met was in April in London where the Red Devils won 3-1. Interestingly, Spurs are winless at home in their last three EPL clashes with United.

Prediction

Although Manchester United were completely outplayed last week against Liverpool I feel that they will have enough to bounce back against this Spurs team. Manchester United have a good record playing away to Spurs and although United have let in more goals overall this season I believe they have the better defense of the two teams. Spurs are not scoring enough goals for my liking and I believe this trend will continue on Saturday. I am confident that the Red Devils will end their slump and secure all three points.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been absent from the scoring sheet for a couple of games which has stretched the price for him to score anytime to 2.20 which I think is great value, while I also like the price on over 2.5 goals considering the amount of goals both of these teams are letting in at the moment. If you are looking for something extra I would recommend having a nibble on Heung-Min Son to score in the match since he has scored three times in his last two clashes with Manchester United.

Manchester United to win – 2.43
Total Goals: Over 2.5 Goals – 1.78
Anytime Goalscorer: Cristiano Ronaldo – 2.20
Anytime Goalscorer: Heung-Min Son – 2.75
