Boks2021 1The Springboks open their Rugby World Cup campaign on Sunday when they take on Scotland in Marseille and @Olimp_SA have a preview including betting tips

The Springboks are set to face Scotland in their opening game of the World Cup on Sunday the 10th of September at the Stade de Marseille. Our man “The Don” takes a look at the betting and shares his picks for the game.

South Africa

In the Rugby Championship, South Africa secured two victories, defeating Australia and Argentina, and only suffered one loss to New Zealand. They were even more successful in the warm-up games, winning all three matches against Argentina, Wales, and securing a convincing victory over New Zealand. This recent success has placed them third in the betting odds to win the World Cup outright at 4.20. Furthermore, they are currently leading the betting odds to top their group at 1.79, despite this group being considered the most challenging

Scotland

Scotland began their warm-up games on a high note with two impressive victories, first against Italy and then against the always formidable opponents, France. They experienced their only defeat during the warm-up phase, narrowly losing to the French away in a closely contested match that concluded with a score of 30-27 after a late French penalty. To conclude their warm-up matches, they staged a remarkable comeback to comfortably defeat Georgia, despite trailing by six points at halftime. They are currently positioned at odds of 39.00 for an outright World Cup victory and 10.00 to secure an outright win in their group.

Recent Head-to-Head

The last time these two teams met was in 2021 at Murrayfield, where South Africa were able to defeat Scotland in a game that ended 15-30. Before then they only played each other back in 2018 where the Springboks again beat Scotland at Murrayfield.

The Dons Plays

Scotland to score over 17.5 points at 1.83

In all four of their warmup games, Scotland have managed to score 25 points or more and they play an entertaining brand of rugby. It won’t be easy to get through this Bok defence but in Finn Russell I believe they have the man who can unlock it and I am backing them to score more than 17.5 points on Sunday.

Total points to be over 53.5 at 2.48

Similarly, to Scotland, the Springboks had some high scoring warmup games, their lowest of the three being 24 points away to Argentina and their highest being 52 points in Cardiff. I think the bookies have underestimated the points line a bit (it is 47.5) and am going to take a bigger price we get 54 or more.
