australia 119Couch Critic previews Saturday's Rugby World Cup quarter final clash between England and Australia with best bets from @Olimp_SA

It’s knockout rugby time! Here is how I see things going down in the quarter final between England and Australia.

England vs Australia, Saturday 19 October @ 09:15 (Oita)

What you need to know

Australia finished second in Pool D. The Wallabies lost the group deciding match against Wales. They also trailed Fiji at half time and failed to impress against Uruguay or Georgia. Not only have the Aussies failed to find fifth gear in the main event it’s been a dismal year or two for Cheika’s men.

England had an opportunity to rest with their feet up after their clash versus France was cancelled. Before this the Poms put in workmanlike efforts against USA and Tonga. They also dispatched of Argentina with little difficulty and in so doing topped Pool C.

This is a clash between an Australian team whose game is at a low-point yet everyone knows how dangerous 23 Wallabies can be on their day when they click and get things right. Their opponents are coached by the methodical Eddie Jones who knows the Aussie game incredibly well, but will the English be caught a touch underdone on the day?

How I see it panning out

I’ve made no bones about the fact that I just don’t think the Australians have the total game at present. Their forwards aren’t able to dominate and David Pocock hasn’t been as effective since his return. They have yet to find their best backline combination and for mind Matt To’omua would have been the better option at flyhalf.

England will be in full battle mode for this one. They have opted for Farrell back at pivot and both Vunipolas are ready and reporting for duty. Rugby is a collision sport and I see England winning the battle in this department.

Betting Strategy

I see Australia keeping things close enough early on but not being able stay with the clinical Poms for the full 80. Also watch out for replacement hooker Cowan-Dickie getting over for the last try in the match as the English forwards end the match trampling all over the wounded Wallabies.

Betolimp Best Bet: England – 8.5 @ 1.90

Special Play 1: England to lead by 1-8 points at half time and win by 13 or more @ 7.70

Special Play 2: Last Tryscorer – Luke Cowan Dickie @ 17.00
