LEICESTER CITY VS NEWCASTLE UNITED. SUNDAY @ 17.30

Leicester host Newcastle at the King Power Stadium in the only Premier League game this Sunday. With the Foxes strong start to the season, they will be hoping to make it 14 points from 21 this weekend. Leicester City has only lost one game so far this season and completed an excellent comeback last weekend against Spurs. The fans have become really optimistic about their chances this season as they aim to end up in the European places. Newcastle United fans (like myself) have less reason to optimistic after a less than convincing start to the season. The Magpies have only won 1 game so far this season and are lurking above the relegation zone. Last weekends scoreless draw was difficult to watch, as Newcastle only really started pushing for the last 20 minutes. For the last 2 seasons this exact fixture has been seen Newcastle get a vital away victory, but Ayoze Perez, who scored in both games for the Magpies is now playing for the Foxes.

LEICESTER CITY:

It’s exciting times if you are a fan of Leicester City, Brendan Rodgers has made the team more consistent on both ends of the pitch and a number of young players are producing, which is always great news for the present and the future of the club. Last weekend they showed their ability to grind out results and go head to head with the top teams after a come from behind win against Spurs. James Maddison had another inspired performance and lived up to the hype. Their xGf is 1.14 and xGa 0.90, they have been excellent at the back, so do we ask Maguire who? Any good team is built on a good defence and Rodgers will be more than happy with the start of the season. James Maddison is a major doubt for this weekend’s match, as he suffered an ankle injury in the victory over Tottenham. Ayoze Perez is expected to play a key role against his former club.

NEWCASTLE UNITED:

The match against Brighton was another difficult watch as a Newcastle supporter, with the only good thing being Newcastle local lad Andy Carroll making his long awaited return in the black and white jersey. He got a massive reception from the fans and you could feel the energy, but Newcastle couldn’t convert their late pressure into a goal. We haven’t seen enough quality so far from club record signing Joelinton and flamboyant winger Saint-Maximin has been injured for most of the time. News coming about another potential takeover bid hasn’t really excited fans that much, as we’ve been there too many times. Newcastle’s xGf is 0.85 and xGa 1.64, the Magpies have been outplayed in most of the games and Bruce needs to change something. Fans have asked for 2 strikers up top, with Carroll and Joelinton, but it’s doubtful we will see it this weekend. Yedlin and Ritchie has started training with the team once again, but might only feature on the bench, while Saint-Maximin is once again doubtful for the game.

PROBABLE LINE-UPS:

Leicester: 4-1-4-1

Schmeichel,

Pereira, Evans, Soyuncu, Chilwell,

Ndidi,

Perez, Tielemans, Praet, Barnes,

Vardy

Newcastle: 5-4-1

Dubravka,

Manquillo, Schar, Lascelles, Dummett, Willems,

Almiron, Hayden, Shelvey, Atsu,

Joelinton

PREDICTION:

Newcastle United will be looking to frustrate Leicester City and limit the space in behind for the likes of Vardy and Perez. I don’t think we see Maddison this weekend, as Rodgers might feel they have enough quality to not risk the player. I don’t think we see a lot of goals in this fixture and that the Mags will put in another shift away from home. Hopefully Bruce will give Carroll more time this weekend to trouble that excellent Leicester defence. I don’t like betting on Newcastle for obvious reasons, but I like them on the handicap this weekend. The lads will work hard at the back, especially with former team mate Perez on the other side. Howay The Lads!
