It’s the big one at Anfield on Tuesday. Coach Jurgen Klopp prepares to face an old foe as Germany’s Bayern Munich travels to England for a Champions League last sixteen match.
Few men have spent more time analysing and opponent than Klopp with Munich. Having spent the better part of eight years at the helm of Dortmund it was one of his primary responsibilities to ensure his team overcome their age-old rival.
Bayern for their part haven’t been in vintage form this season and have their work cut out for them if they are to reel in Borussia Dortmund this time around and claim their seventh straight Bundesliga title. Niko Kovac could still be harbouring hopes of catching Dortmund in the local league but going far in the Champions League could be an alternative avenue for him if he wants to try and dodge the brunt of failing the high expectations of his countrymen.
Verdict: On the Liverpool website Klopp described Bayern as “a mix of quality and experience” and yes, they have adapted their style somewhat under different managers. But surely the one best suited to finding a chink in the armour of German engineering is someone who knows them better than any other and who can bring his own German precision.

Juventus are running away with things in the Italy Serie A (with no slip ups to date and only three draws) but will be running straight into a Spanish side sitting above Real Madrid in the Spanish La Liga. The Spanish have long been saying that they have the best league in the world and this promises to be a feisty clash as it would send a strong message were the second placed Spanish team be able to topple the runaway Italian leaders.
Athletico have slipped up a few times of late whilst Juventus have scored a bunch of goals. The visitors might be happy with an away goal and look to settle things on their home turf. I reckon Juventus wins this one but Madrid should be good enough to get one in the net themselves.
