SOUTH AFRICA vs ENGLAND 3rd T20I - 16 Feb, Centurion @ 14:30

SETTING THE SCENE

It was a cliff-hanger but in the end the Proteas couldn’t capitalise on needing 3 runs from 2 balls at the death and ended up giving their series advantage up against the never-say-die Poms. After a long tour we head to Super Sport Park in Centurion for the final match of the English summer visit. The South Africans will be desperate to finally pull of a series win having given up a lead in both the tests and the One-dayers.

Take our weekend football treble, Spurs to win (at Aston Villa), Sampdoria v Fiorentina over 2.5 goals and Lazio v Inter both teams to score with odds boosted to 8.90

LET’S TALK TACTICS

Moeen Ali came good in Durbs after having his struggles in the last 12 months or so. The lefty gave the visitors’ innings some much needed momentum at Kingsmead which ultimately proved to be the difference. With the ball Chris Jordan has been superb at the business end for the English.

Death bowling won the game for the South Africans in in the opening T20I but this aspect let them down badly on Friday. Beuran Hendricks in particular dished up too many balls right in the hitting slot whilst Ngidi and Phehlukwayo still need to work on their consistency in executing this tough task. With the willow De Kock remains a cut above in the SA lineup but Rassie van der Dussen showed glimpses of finding his best form which would help the Proteas greatly as they can’t keep leaning so heavily on their skipper.

The track at Centurion is usually one of the better pitches in the country. Bounce should be true and the ball tends to fly nicely in the Highveld so there shouldn’t be a shortage of sixes here.

HOW I SEE IT PLAYING OUT

I’m finally ready to ditch the spinners and back the quicker men. Chris Jordan has been superb with his death bowling and he often picks up some wickets at this stage. He’s also a clean striker and should he be given a few balls at the grease he could just chip in with a few runs and tip the scales in his favour for an award at the end of the game – his great catching is another benefit worth keeping in mind.

In terms of the batting Morgan is the one guy I am sticking with. He found himself in the perfect position to deliver for us in the previous game but just didn’t quite kick on. If given the same opportunity and situation I see the skipper bringing home the bacon. The guys above him in the order are all strikers who seem to have little regard for their own wicket.

For the Saffas Steyn is certain to come back for Hendricks and the chances are that he will be handed death duties as well. Watch out for the experienced Steyn to show his class at a ground which he knows better than most. Quiny is in sublime form and has no issue in clearing boundaries. I’m backing the skipper to go “BOOM” on a few occasions in Pretoria.
