spurs1819@ZAPunter provides his betting tips for the English Premier League match between Spurs and Southampton which takes place on Saturday 28th September

TOTTENHAM VS. SOUTHAMPTON, SATURDAY @ 16:00

Spurs welcome the Saints to London on Saturday, which looks like a vital game for under fire manager Pochettino and his team. Tottenham didn’t win in their last 3 matches, drawing away at Olympiacos and away defeats against Leicester City and Colchester United. The shocking defeat to League 2 club Colchester in the League Cup has fans and the media talking about the safety of Pochettino’s job. Southampton is coming into the game after an emotional 4-0 away win in the league cup against arch rivals Portsmouth. This was their first match in 7 years and it meant so much to fans to get a positive result. Saturday’s fixture has seen some classic games, with both teams scoring and a lot of goals, can we expect the same this weekend? Both teams suffered defeats last weekend in which they were favourites going into the game, so both managers will be expecting a bounce back performance.

TOTTENHAM:

It’s been a difficult couple of weeks for Spurs and the blame is being targeted at Pochettino rather than the players. The performances haven’t been bad, but we know that this is a results business. Tottenham lost a 2-0 lead against Olympiacos, they were leading 1-0 and had a goal ruled out by VAR against Leicester only to lose 2-1 and they lost on penalties against Colchester. This is still the same team that reached the Champions League final, surely we will see a positive reaction sooner rather than later? Tottenham’s xGf is 1.46 and xGa 1.53, compared to their actual goals scored and conceded, they have been clinical with their chances, but allow the opposition to create too much goal scoring opportunities. We will see Tottenham strongest 11 this weekend, without a doubt and the only injury for this weekend is Lo Celso who has been ruled out until November. Pochettino is an excellent manager and Spurs have so much talent all over the pitch, can they turn things around this weekend?

SOUTHAMPTON:

Tuesday evening was a special night for everyone involved with the Saints, especially the fans who hasn’t experienced a South Coast derby in 7 years. Hasenhuttl knew what the game meant, so selected a strong side and they won 4-0. Pompey gave it their all, so the Saints players worked extra hard and you could see how fatigued they were at the end. Emotions were running high if you look at their celebration after the game and now they will need to try and focus on a massive task at hand. They lost their last Premier League game 3-1 at home against Bournemouth and looked disorganised. Their xGf is 1,8 and xGa 1.48, compared to their actual goals, they are not scoring enough goals with the chances they are creating. Djenepo remains unavailable for this weekend and we might see a few changes from Tuesday night’s win. Hasenhuttl might decide to go with the 4-3-3 formation that worked very well against Pompey. Saints will be hoping they can trouble Spurs on Saturday.

PREDICTION:

Come on you Spurs! I expect the players to rally and give a massive performance for Pochettino on Saturday. Spurs are being disrespected by pundits and the media who look like they forgot this team played in a Champions League final a few months ago. Southampton will be buzzing with their derby victory and it will take some time for them to focus on Saturday. Tottenham should come out firing and Southampton will need to be focused from the kick-off and I doubt they will be. The handicap was my original bet but decided to go with the team total here, expecting Spurs to score at least 2 goals.
