The Currie Cup continues this weekend and we take a look at all 4 matches from a betting angle.

The Cheetahs are the Currie Cup favourites at 9/4 with the Pumas priced at 5/2, you can get 28/10 Western Province, 11/2 the Sharks and 12/1 and better the balance.

FRIDAY

Griffons v Blue Bulls – Click here to bet

The Griffons have had a tough introduction to the Currie Cup and have lost all 3 of their opening matches. They led the Lions early last week before going down 41-26 in Johannesburg and their only home game to date was a 40 point defeat to the Cheetahs.

The Bulls have also lost their opening 3 matches and sit just above the Griffons on the table in 7th spot. They were well beaten 32-7 by the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein last week and prior to that had lost to Western Province by 8 and the Pumas by 48 points at home.

Handicap: Griffons +18.5

The Griffons showed signs last week that the relentless nature of the Currie Cup is going to take its toll and I think that a Bulls side boosted by a couple of returning players can win this comfortably. At the time of writing there were no points lines but an alternative bet is a Bulls overs play at anywhere around the 40 point mark.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Bulls -18.5 at 9/10

Cheetahs v Pumas – Click here to bet

The Cheetahs and Pumas are both undefeated with the Cheetahs top of the table by virtue of the fact that they have taken bonus points in all 3 of their matches.

Last week the Cheetahs beat the Blue Bulls 32-7 at home, but this will be a very different Cheetahs side that runs on to the field as they are involved in the Challenge Cup action this weekend.

The Pumas have made minimal changes from the team that beat the Griquas 28-13 at home last week. Their only other away match this season was a 63-15 hammering of the Bulls at Loftus.

Handicap: Cheetahs +20.5

Although this handicap has ballooned out to 20.5 I can’t see this Cheetahs team staying with the Pumas. An alternative would be to wait for the points lines where I would fancy going overs on Pumas points at around the 38-40 point range.

Suggested Bet: Handicap Pumas -20.5 at 9/10

SATURDAY

Golden Lions v Sharks – Click here to bet

The Lions are currently 5th on the log having got their first victory of the season at home to the Griffons last week.

They face a Sharks side currently sitting 3rd on the table after a hard fought and low scoring 20-7 victory over Western Province in Durban in Week 3. This will be the Sharks second match on the road having lost 48-40 to the Griquas in Kimberley despite holding a significant half-time lead.

Handicap: Lions +4.5

The Sharks impressed last week and they look to have more depth than the Lions and can win this comfortably.

Suggested bet: Handicap Sharks -4.5 at 19/20

Western Province v Griquas – Click here to bet

Western Province suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost by 13 points away to the Sharks last week and they currently sit 4th on the log. This will be Province’s first home game of the season.

Griquas were well backed to get a victory away to the Pumas last week when they went down 13-28 in Nelspruit. They had previously come from behind to beat the Sharks 48-40 at home in Week 2 and they also hosted the Cheetahs in Week 1 going down 19-42.

Handicap: Western Province -5.5

Western Province’s resources are heavily stretched due to URC and Champions Cup fixtures, but I haven't been that impressed with this Griquas side and they are not known as the best of travellers. I am going for Western Province to beat this handicap.

The points line is set at 59.5 and al alternative to the handicap is WP over 32.5 points at 17/20.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Western Province -5.5 at 19/20
