CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Max Verstappen’s consecutive winning streak ended at 10 as he finished 5th in the Singapore Grand Prix last weekend. Verstappen started 11th on the grid and could only get as high as 5th before taking the chequered flag. Carlos Sainz Jnr took pole position and he made it count going on to win the race ahead of Lando Norris, who we had backed to finish in the Top 6. Lewis Hamilton completed the podium and he also got the fastest lap of the race.

Despite the 5th place finish, Verstappen extended his already unassailable Championship lead with Perez finishing behind him and Perez remains the short 1/10 favourite in the “Winner without Verstappen” market with Hamilton priced at 6/1 and 50/1 and better the balance.

JAPANESE GRAND PRIX

The 2022 Japanese Grand Prix ended a break of two years without a race due to COVID-19 and Max Verstappen took pole position and won the race by 27 seconds from his teammate, Sergio Perez with Charles Leclerc 3rd in his Ferrari. Fastest lap was a big upset with Zhou Guanyu in his Alfa Romeo-Ferrari setting the quickest time on lap 20.

Of the current drivers racing, Lewis Hamilton has won 5 Japanese Grand Prix’s with his last win back in 2018.

Max Verstappen 1/3

Sergio Perez 12/1

Lando Norris 16/1

Carlos Sainz 20/1

Charles Leclerc 20/1

Lewis Hamilton 20/1

25/1 and better the balance, all prices correct at the time of writing but are subject to change

The betting suggests that the 5th place last week is going to be nothing more than a blip on the radar for Max Verstappen who is 1/3 for the win here. He should be much better suited by the quicker Suzuka Track and it will be a brave man to oppose him.

World Sports Betting are running a promo this week when if you back a driver and he wins with his teammate finishing 2nd you get double your winnings in the form of free bets so if you do take the 1/3 Verstappen hopefully his teammate Perez follows him home.

Zhou Guanyu is not a name we talk a lot about in these betting previews, but his fastest lap at the track last year caught my eye and he has had 3 points finishes this season all just scraping into the Top 10. I am going to take a speculative play that he drives into the points this week.

Suggested Bet: Points Finish Zhou Guanyu at 6/1

As a matter of interest if you want to back him to repeat his fastest lap feat of 2022 that is on offer at 250/1

I am firmly in the Max Verstappen camp this week and I think he wins this race comfortably like he did last year and will bet that the winning margin is over 12 seconds.

Suggested Bet: Winning Margin over 12 seconds at 1/1
