WSB Logo Orange 80x80The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya plays host to this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix and we take a look at the race from a betting angle.

Max Verstappen started in pole position in the Monaco Grand Prix last week and he ended up cruising in as the race victor beating Fernando Alonso by just under 28 seconds. Esteban Ocon was something of a surprise finishing in 3rd and he was chased home by the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. The disappointment of the race was Verstappen’s teammate and closest rival in the Title race, Sergio Perez who finished well down field. Lewis Hamilton achieved the fastest lap.

Verstappen has now opened up a 39 point lead at the top of the Drivers Standings with Perez still in 2nd, but now only 12 points ahead of the ever consistent Fernando Alonso.

Verstappen is as short as 3/50 to defend his title and if you are looking at a long-term interest rather focus on the winner without Verstappen market where Perez is trading as 1/5 and I think there could be some value on either Alonso 7/1 or Hamilton 12/1.

2022 SPANISH GRAND PRIX

Charles Leclerc qualified in pole position in last year’s Spanish Grand Prix, but it was Max Verstappen who won the race ahead of his teammate, Sergio Perez with George Russell finishing 3rd. Leclerc unfortunately retired a third of the way through the race with turbo problems. Max Verstappen’s win last year broke a run of 5 successive victories for Lewis Hamilton in the Spanish Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen 4/10

Sergio Perez 4/1

Fernando Alonso 12/1

Charles Leclerc 25/1

George Russell 33/1

Lewis Hamilton 33/1

Carlos Sainz 40/1

125/1 and better the balance, all prices correct at the time of writing but are subject to change

It is hard to look past Verstappen again this week and if you are going to take the 4/10 there is a season long Betting Promotion at World Sports Betting whereby you get your stake back if the driver you bet on finishes 2nd, so you at least have some insurance while taking a short price.

Lewis Hamilton showed signs of form last week and he did get the fastest lap and given that his record at this track I will have an outright bet on him to win the race at 33/1 while having a bigger stake on a podium finish for Hamilton at 5/2.

Suggested Bet: Hamilton win at 33/1

Suggested Bet: Hamilton Podium at 5/2
