BettingDiaryThe Proteas will be looking to complete a 2-0 series win when they host Sri Lanka at the Wanderers Stadium on the 3rd January.

The 1st test took place at Centurion and Sri Lanka won the toss and not surprisingly opted to bat first. They looked in control when Chandimal and de Silva were going great guns in a 4th wicket stand, but de Silva had to retire hurt and although Sri Lanka made it to 396 it never looked quite enough.

South Africa got off to a cracking start through Elgar and Markram and both made 50 before Faf du Plessis, with support from Bavuma and Maharaj, saw South Africa to a massive 621 with du Plessis going out himself on 199.

Sri Lanka were always up against it and could only score 180 in their 2nd innings to lose by an innings and 45 runs.

Faf du Plessis was named Man of the Match.

South Africa 1/4

Draw 11/2

Sri Lanka 10/1

South Africa’s form at the Wanderers has been a mixed bag in recent seasons and their last match was a heavy defeat to England, but they did beat Sri Lanka by an innings when the sides met here back in 2017.

It is hard to see a depleted Sri Lanka side competing with the Proteas, but the betting certainly reflects that and current odds of 1/4 mean I am going to look elsewhere for a betting interest.

SUGGESTED BET: Batsman to score 50 in the 1st innings, YES, Markram at 12/10

Markram looked so at ease at Centurion although it was typically disappointing of him to give his wicket away when he looked set for a big 100, but I expect him to be among the runs again.

SUGGESTED BET: Total Match Sixes, Over 3.5 at 1/1

The Wanderers is a ground where you tend to see the boundaries cleared more often and I like the chances that we will get 4 or more 6’s in the match.
