THE COURSE

The course plays to a par 71 and is a true test of golf with winning scores generally around the -11 to -16 mark.

The Le Golf National is exposed to the elements and is described as a stadium style golf course where a strong all-round game will be needed to take the win. This will be the 29th time that this course has hosted a tournament on the European Tour.

MARKET LEADERS

When looking at the betting on this Tournament I found myself going out to see if I had clicked on the wrong link as there were very few familiar names at the top of the betting boards. This is because of the Ryder Cup next week but just because the big names are missing does not mean we cannot make money.

Tom Kim has played well this season including his runner up finish at The Open and is priced at 10/1 and although his recent form has been solid I am going to take him on this week. I am also going to swerve Min Woo Lee at 12/1 despite a top 15 and top 10 in recent weeks. Neither of the top 2 in the betting have played this course.

SELECTIONS:

Suggested Bet: Ryan Fox each way at 14/1

Fox finished strongly last weekend to win the BMW Championship at Wentworth and the week before that he finished 3rd so he certainly is in a rich vein of form. He doesn’t have a particularly strong record here although did finish 6th in 2017 and with the confidence that he got from last week’s win I think he can go back-to-back against the weak field.

Guido Migliozzi each way at 66/1

Talking about back-to-back let’s hope Migliozzi can give us a good run here as the defending Champion. He missed the cut in 2019, but last year won the Tournament and while last week’s missed cut is a concern he was in pretty solid form before that with a Top 20 and a Top 15 finish.

Richie Ramsay each way at 66/1

Ramsay showed promising form last week with a Top 30 finish and what caught my eye was his very inconsistent form at this venue. He finished 50th in 2011 and again in 2019. Last year he missed the cut and there were plenty of other missed cuts even a retirement in-between.

In the short of it we don’t know which Richie Ramsay is going to rock up to the course, but in the field missing the big names I am hoping he can build on last week’s solid performance and find his 2019 form at the course.

Thriston Lawrence each way at 80/1

It feels good to put a South African in the staking plan and Lawrence impressed here on debut finishing 20th in 2022. He has been a bit inconsistent of late and missed the cut last week, but the week before that he finished 3rd and he also has another top 15 to his credit in his last 5 starts. He should be competitive in this field.
