BettingDiaryThe TPC Scottsdale Course plays host to this weeks featured golf event, The Waste Management Phoenix Open on the PGA Tour. We select 4 players to take on the field.

Sadly the crowd won’t be a factor at the Tournament this year and the famous 16th hole will be far less intimidating to the players.

Accuracy is more important than length at the TPC Scottsdale and being a good ball striker is of paramount importance.

Jon Rahm currently heads the betting at 13/2 with Justin Thomas 9/1, Schauffele priced at 21/2 and you can get 12/1 and better the balance. Rahm has excellent course form and deserves his place at the top of the betting boards, but he just doesn’t win often enough for me and I am going to look to take him on this week.

SELECTIONS:

Justin Thomas each way at 9/1

Thomas is coming off a rest after a disappointing outing in Abu Dhabi where he missed the cut. Prior to that he was in excellent form in the PGA Tour and he has great course form with a couple of 3rd place finishes in the last 2 starts he has made in this event.

Hideki Matsuyama each way at 22/1

Matsuyama absolutely loves this track and has 2 wins and 2 Top 30’s in 4 starts. He has been a bit expensive to follow of late, but if he is going to bounce back to the winners circle it will be at a course he loves.

Michael Thompson each way at 140/1

This is a big price about a golfer who is in good form with a Top 5, a Top 15 and 2 Top 25’s in his last 4 starts. I guess the bookmakers are looking at the fact that he hasn’t won in years, but he has showed a liking for this course in the past and at the price he makes it into my staking plan.

Billy Horschel each way at 66/1

Horschel has a solid record here with a few Top 25’s and a Top 10 finish last year. He missed the cut last time out, but prior to that had some good consistent form and he has the potential to be right there this week.
