WSB Logo Orange 80x80Stage 13 of the La Vuelta is only 137.4 kilometres, but is an absolute beast and finishes on the Col Du Tourmalet an out of category climb. We take a look at the stage from a betting angle.

STAGE 12 WRAP

Our money was on the hot pot favourite Kaden Groves to win Stage 12 in a sprint finish and his team looked like they had done a perfect job setting him up, but he somehow found himself boxed in and it was Juan Sebastian Molano who sprinted clear to take a brilliant victory. Groves managed to get up late for 2nd, which was good for us because we had taken him at World Sports Betting where we could get our money back for 2nd place. Boy Van Poppel rode a good race in 3rd and Dainese disappointed against with a 7th place finish

JERSEY UPDATE

There were no changes to the General Classification and Primoz Roglic remains the 11/10 favourite, his teammate, Jonas Vingegaard has shortened in to 5/2 from 7/2 with Sepp Kuss 15/2 and Remco Evenepoel now 9/2. Kaden Groves looks to have the points classification done and dusted barring an accident and the King of the Mountains Jersey betting is led by Jonas Vingegaard at 6/1 while Team Jumbo-Visma are odds on favourites at 8/11 to win the Team Classification.

THE ROUTE

Riders climb a Cat 3 straight out of the block and that should ensure that we get a strong break go clear. There is really no flat all day as the stage goes up and down and the riders have some brutal climbs to contend with including the Col d’Aubisque which is 16.5 kilometres long and rises at an average of 7.1% that peaks out just inside the first 50 kilometres and it is not long before we hit the next climb, the Col de Spandelles which is 10.3 kilometres at an average of 8.3%. The real monster is waiting at the end of the stage though, the Col du Tourmalet 18.9 kilometres at 7.4% and the last 2 kilometres have gradients of 8.2 and 9.6 respectively.

PREDICTION

This stage should be raced at a frantic pace and I expect that we will get a strong break going clear, but I don’t think that Jumbo-Visma are going to let it get any sort of margin and I am expecting them to work on the front of the peloton to bring this one back together.

Primoz Roglic is the 3/1 favourite, but this climb probably suits his teammate, Vingegaard better although it is still not clear whether Vingegaard’s form is improving or potentially declining having raced and won the Tour de France.

Evenepoel at 11/1 must also be a runner, but at the end of the day I think that Roglic is looking good and I am backing him to get another stage win.

Suggested Bet: Primoz Roglic at 3/1
