STAGE 15 WRAP

The riders are coming off a rest day and on Sunday it was Rui Costa who turned back the clock to win from the breakaway. He sprinted past Lennard Kamna with Santiago Buitrago completing the podium. There were a few skirmishes along the way, but the General Classification contenders all finished together just under 3 minutes behind the winner.

JERSEY UPDATE

Sepp Kuss is 1.37 ahead of his teammate, Primoz Roglic with Jonas Vingegaard completing the podium for Jumbo-Visma, sitting 7 seconds behind Roglic. Behind them are 4 Spaniards who will all be looking to make life hard for Jumbo-Visma’s Sepp Kuss over the coming days. Kuss is the 4/9 favourite to win the Red Jersey with Vingegaard at 33/10.

Remco Evenepoel is now the 7/20 shot to win the King of the Mountains Jersey where he currently holds a healthy lead. Kaden Groves is 1/5 to win the Points Jersey with Remco Evenepoel his nearest rival at 5/1.

The Team Classification also looks done and dusted with Jumbo-Visma now 1/5 favourites.

THE ROUTE

As mentioned in the introduction this is a very short stage and it is also quite a flat one at least until the final Cat 2 climb which while only 4.8 kilometres is an average of 8.8% that includes a fairly flat middle section and the last 2 kilometres increase at 11.5 and 9.4 % respectively.

Jumbo-Visma has the obvious favourite in the race in Primoz Roglic, but I doubt they are going to work too hard to keep it together given the tough couple of days that lie ahead. There should be a frantic race to get into the break which must stand a good chance and the fact that it is quite flat to start with may count against some of the stronger climbers.

PREDICTION

I think the breakaway will get the job done and the man to take the stage win will be Santiago Buitrago who impressed me with his legs on Sunday. The stage doesn’t look ideally suited to Filippo Ganna, but he is in fine form and I am hoping that he gets in to the break and that Ineos gives him a chance to ride for the stage. For him to win he probably will have to have a handy lead going into the climb, but this is certainly something he is capable of.

Suggested Bet: Buitrago win at 12/1

Suggested Bet: Ganna win at 66/1
