WSB Logo Orange 80x80Stage 19 of La Vuelta a España is 177.1 kilometres and after a long break the sprinters look set to have the final say.

STAGE 18 WRAP

Stage 18 went as we expected to the breakaway with Jumbo-Visma adopting a defensive strategy to ensure that Sepp Kuss stayed in the Red Jersey. Remco Evenepoel made the breakaway and ended up riding clear on his own to win the stage by 4 minutes 44 seconds from Damiano Caruso with Andreas Kron completing the podium.

There were very few shots fired amongst the General Classification riders and it is a case of “as you were” in the Red Jersey race.

JERSEY UPDATE

Sepp Kuss is now 1/20 to win the Vuelta and barring accident all of the jerseys look to have been decided. Jumbo-Visma are over half an hour clear in the Team Classification, Kaden Groves leads Remco Evenepoel by 36 points in the Green Jersey race and Evenepoel wrapped up the King of the Mountains Jersey on Stage 18. Ayuso is 3 minutes 37 clear of Uijtdebroeks in the Young Jersey competition.

THE ROUTE

As mentioned it is pretty much a straight route, but it will be interesting to see what kind of break goes clear. We are at the stage of a Grand Tour where there are tired legs and there may just be a few riders who fancy their chances of thwarting the sprinters. At the same time though sprinters having dragged their weary bodies over the climb only to have chances like this taken away and it is hard to see anything other than a bunch sprint finish.

PREDICTION

Kaden Groves has been the fastest man in the race and he probably should have won more than the two stages he has, but his positioning in the final run in hasn’t always been great. He looked very strong in the mountains and I can’t look past him here at odds of 12/10 especially given the insurance of getting your money back for second place with World Sports Betting.

Suggested Bet: Kaden Groves win at 12/10
