saodiThe fifth ODI between Sri Lanka and South Africa takes place in Colombo on Sunday, it’s the final match of a series the Proteas have already won but Sri Lanka did make it 3-1 with a victory earlier this week.

The Proteas won the first 3 matches of the series pretty comfortably, clinching the series with victory margins of 5 wickets, 4 wickets and 78 runs. Heading onto the fourth ODI at Pallekele on Wednesday a 5-0 clean sweep was looking more and more likely but Sri Lanka put in their best display of the series to win a rain affected match by 3 runs.

The Proteas were without injured skipper Faf du Plessis for Wednesday’s game which was interrupted more than once by rain and Sri Lanka posted a target of 306/7 in 39 overs. The top scores came from Shanaka (65), Kusal Perera (51) and Thisara Perera (also 51) and it was by far the biggest total the Sri Lankan’s had posted in the series so far.

After more rain the target was revised down to 191 in 21 overs and Quinton de Kock, who skippered the South African side and Hashim Amla scored quickly to put South Africa in front of the required rate. At 129/3 and around 7-8 runs per over needed the visitors were well in control but Sri Lanka refused to throw in the towel, wickets tumbled and South Africa ended up on 187/9.

The Verdict:

If we get a full 50 overs per side I fancy we will see a centurion from either team and hence a top individual score of 98 runs or more gets the vote.

Bet: Highest Individual Score, over 97.5 runs at 17/20
