cobrast20Wednesday’s action in the CSA T20 Challenge sees the WSB Cape Cobras bid to make it two wins from two when they take on the Titans in Benoni.

Titans:

Having lifted the One Day Cup trophy the Titans opened their defence of the T20 crown at home to the Warriors on Friday last week but despite starting as firm favourites they went down by 4 runs (DLS). The result was tough on the Titans who had piled on a bat first total of 216/5 in a full 20 overs with de Bruyn (74) and Thomson (42) the top scorers in an innings of 10 maximums. That target was initially reduced to 200 off 18 overs and the Warriors were 60 without loss after 6 overs when play was halted for the final time and the Warriors were marginally ahead on the revised DLS calculation.

This was how the Titans lined up in their first outing:

Diego Rosier, Tony de Zorzi, Farhaan Behardien (capt), Henry Davids, Theunis de Bruyn, Grant Thomson, Eldred Hawken, Rubin Hermann (wk), Junior Dala, Shaun von Berg, Tshepo Moreki

WSB Cape Cobras:

The WSB Cape Cobras started with a clash against the Lions at The Wanderers on Sunday and they edged a tight contest by 5 runs. Batting first the Cobras posted 169/8 with several players getting starts but Vernon Philander’s 31 was the top individual score.

The Lions were favourites at that stage and even more so as they reached 114/2 with 5 overs to spare. The Cobras bowlers refused to throw in the towel and more wickets fell but with 8 runs needed off the final over to be bowled by Dane Paterson, the Lions still looked highly likely to win. It was a dramatic finale and a further 3 wickets fell at the cost of just 2 runs. The Lions innings closed on 164/8 and the Cobras claimed the points.

This was how the Cobras lined up in their opening match:

Hashim Amla, Janneman Malan, David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne (wk), Simon Khomari, Aviwe Mgijima, George Linde, Vernon Philander, Rory Kleinveldt (capt), Dane Paterson, Tladi Bokako

Verdict:

The Cobras will take plenty of confidence from their win at the Wanderers against a strong looking Lions side. They face another tough task here and there is room for improvement in their batting but the bowling was excellent when most needed on Sunday and the visitors could well go in again.

Suggested Bet: WSB Cape Cobras to win at 11/10
