warriorst20Wednesday’s televised Momentum One Day Cup action sees the Warriors host the Dolphins in Port Elizabeth and both these sides are bidding to seal a place in the play offs.

All the teams have 2 rounds of matches to play and the Titans are top of the log with a commanding 8 point lead over the Warriors. We then have the Cobras and the Dolphins a further 2 points in arrears. The Knights could still make the play offs but the Lions would need 2 big wins and other results to go their way.

Warriors:

The Warriors started the tournament in terrific form with 4 wins and 1 no result but they have suffered 3 defeats in their last 3 matches. To be fair 2 of those defeats came against the Titans who have hit top form but most recently the Warriors put in their worst display so far in a 5 wicket home defeat to the Knights.

The Warriors were bowled out for just 121 against the Knights in East London and although they had the Knights 55/5 at one stage they finished well beaten.

In the first meeting with the Dolphins the Warriors came out on top by 8 wickets (DLS) in Durban. The Dolphins posted 244 batting first and after a rain delay the Warriors reached the reduced target of 152 for the loss of just 2 wickets.

After this the Warriors finish the round robin stage at home to the Cobras.

Dolphins:

The Dolphins have also found trouble after a blistering start to the tournament. They won their first 3 matches before tripping up in the aforementioned defeat to the Warriors. They bounced back at home to the Knights next time out but since then they have suffered 3 successive defeats.

Most recently the Dolphins went down to the Knights by 58 runs in Kimberley in a game reduced to 25 overs per side.

The Dolphins are now fourth in the standings, the last of the semi final places and they have a 4 point cushion over the fifth placed Knights. After this they finish the round robin stage away to the Lions.

Verdict:

Both these teams have lost the early momentum and which one is best placed to bounce back is open to debate. Slight preference is for the visitors who’s bigger name players are taken to halt the slide in what is an important game for both teams.
