Spurs v Liverpool

Match Result Betting

Spurs 18/10, Draw 5/2, Liverpool 15/10

Spurs won their first 3 league matches of the season but they came unstuck away to high flying Watford just prior to the international break. A 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road saw Spurs slip down to fifth spot in the standings, 3 points off the pace being set by Liverpool, Chelsea and Watford and 1 point behind Manchester City.

Spurs have played just 1 home game this season which saw them beat Fulham 3-1 and backers of over 2.5 goals have collected in all 4 of their league games.

Liverpool maintained their 100% record this season with a 2-1 win at Leicester and they top the log with the best goal difference. They were 2-0 up in that game before conceding for the first time this season. One earlier road trip saw Liverpool score at the end of each half in a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace and they kept clean sheets in home wins over West Ham (4-0) and Brighton (1-0). This is Liverpool’s biggest test of the season and note this game is the early kick off.

In last season’s head to heads Spurs were 4-1 winners at Wembley and the teams drew 2-2 at Anfield.

Verdict:

This should be a cracking game to start the weekend but for me it looks a tough one to call. I see the potential for at least 3 goals, probably with both sides on target but the quotes are understandably on the short side.

Of the prices available in the match result market, the draw makes most appeal.

Bet: Match result draw at 5/2

Manchester City v Fulham

Match Result Betting

Man City 1/8, Draw 35/4, Fulham 20/1

City are unbeaten this season but find themselves 2 points off the pace. They have won both their home games so far, 6-1 against Huddersfield and most recently 2-1 against Newcastle. Their only clean sheet this season came in a 2-0 win at Arsenal on the opening weekend and the dropped points came in a 1-1 draw at newly promoted Wolves. City now face another of the clubs who were promoted last season.

Fulham look to be getting to grips with life back in the top flight. They lost their first 2 matches of the season, 2-0 at home to Palace and 3-1 at Spurs before opening their account with a 4-2 home win over Burnley. They were in the goals again just prior to the international break with a 2-2 draw away at Brighton and their tally of 4 points sees them occupy a position just below half way in the standings.

Verdict:

There is plenty to like about Fulham’s performances since they disappointed in their opening match but they face a huge task here. Still, with Huddersfield and Newcastle having scored on their visits to City I see a lively Fulham side contributing to the scoring whatever the outcome.

Bet: Both teams to score? (yes) at even money

Newcastle v Arsenal

Match Result Betting

Newcastle 33/10, Draw 5/2, Arsenal 17/20

Newcastle have had a tough set of fixtures to contend with in the early stages on the season and they have earned just 1 point from 4 outings. That draw came in their second outing, 0-0 at Cardiff and despite being reduced to 10 men Newcastle would have won it had they not missed a last gasp penalty. The 3 defeats came against top sides, 2-1 at home to Spurs on the opening weekend, 2-1 at home to Chelsea and most recently 2-1 away at Manchester City.

Arsenal return to action after chalking up back to back wins with a 3-2 victory away at Cardiff just prior to the international break. They were also 3-1 winners at home to West Ham in Round 3, putting themselves on the board after starting with defeats at home to Manchester City (2-0) and Chelsea (3-2).

Newcastle won this fixture 2-1 last season whilst Arsenal were 1-0 winners at the Emirates.

Verdict:

Arsenal still look like work in progress to me and that would put me off taking the odds on quote for the away win. As for the home side, they have had a torrid start to the season and the fixture list has done them no favours. With 3 of Newcastle’s games having ended in 2-1 defeats that outcome could be worth a nibble in the correct score market but my preference is for 2-3 goals in total.

Bet: Total goals 2-3 at even money

Watford v Manchester United

Match Result Betting

Watford 63/20, Draw 5/2, Man United 19/20

Watford are in dreamland with 4 straight wins seeing them level on points with league leaders Liverpool and second placed Chelsea. The pick of their results was delivered last time out when they came from behind to win a home game against Spurs 2-1. Other victories arrived at home to Palace (2-1) and Brighton (2-0) and their only road trip produced a 3-1 victory at Burnley.

United have taken 6 points from their first 4 matches of the campaign. They started with a 2-1 win at home to Leicester and most recently they were 2-0 winners at struggling Burnley. In between those victories they lost 3-2 at Brighton and 3-0 at home to Spurs.

United completed the double over Watford last season winning this fixture 4-2 and following up with a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford.

Verdict:

Watford are full of themselves right now and caused Spurs plenty of problems in their previous home fixture. United are still hard to work out and whilst they came away from Burnley with maximum points and a clean sheet, their defence has been far from stable in their other matches.

I can see both sides finding the net.

Bet: Both teams to score? (yes) at 17/20
