FranceEuroThe last two nations to play their opening match of the European Championships are heavyweights France and Germany who meet in a Group F clash in Munich on Tuesday.

Group F Betting Update

To top this quartet Germany are priced at around 11/8 with France at a similar price. Portugal are a 7/2 chance and you can get 33/1 and upwards about Hungary. With best third place finishers going through all 3 of the fancied sides are deep in the red to qualify for the knockout rounds and Hungary are 4/1 to make it beyond the group stage.

France

In qualifying for these finals France topped their group, 2 points clear of Turkey with Iceland and Albania third and fourth whilst Andorra and Moldova made up the numbers. France scored 25 goals and conceded 6 and their only dropped points came in a defeat in Turkey and a draw with the same opponent on home turf.

France's early World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign started with a 1-1 draw with Ukraine followed by wins in Kazakhstan (2-0) and Bosnia (1-0)

In recent warm ups France beat Wales and Bulgaria (both 3-0).

France's odds to win the tournament are around 9/2 and most books are making them favourites just ahead of England and Belgium.

Germany

Germany finished top of their qualification group, 2 points clear of the Netherlands with Northern Ireland well back in third and Belarus and Estonia were out of their depth. Germany scored 30 goals and conceded 7 and their only defeat came at home to the Dutch (4-2)

World Cup 2022 qualifying started with a home win over Iceland (3-0) and victory in Romania (1-0) but they were on the wrong end of a huge shock when going down 2-1 at home to North Macedonia

The most notable recent friendly matches saw Germany draw 1-1 with Denmark and they crushed Latvia 7-1.

In the outright betting to win the tournament Germany are trading at around 8/1

Recent Head to Head

When the teams met in Euro 2016 at the semi final stage France were 2-0 winners but they went on to lose the final to Portugal.

The most recent meetings came in the Nations League in 2018 and they drew 0-0 in Germany and France won the return 2-1.

The Betting

France are priced at around 1.65/1 to win the game with the draw at 2.12/1 and Germany can be backed at around 1.76/1

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 11/10 and it's 0.83/1 for both teams to score.

The Verdict:

This is Joachim Löw 's final tournament in charge of Germany and I'm not sure the current side is as well equipped to win it as the teams earlier in his reign. Coming up against the World Champions and tournament favourites first up will tell us plenty and playing in Munich (even though they are listed as the away side) is a plus.

France might just have the edge in quality as we go on but for now I'm happy to call a draw, an outcome I doubt either coach would be too unhappy with.

Bets: Match result draw at 2.12/1
