EnglandEuroItaly and England will contest the final of the European Championship at Wembley on Sunday and the betting suggests there will be very little between the sides.

Italy

Italy reached the final after getting the better of Spain in a penalty shoot out at Wembley on Tuesday. They had to dig deep at times with Spain putting in by far their best display of the tournament and after Chiesa gave them the lead on the hour mark Spain fought back with an equalizer on 80 minutes. The game went into extra time and there were no further goals before Italy held their nerve in the shoot out.

Italy knocked Belgium out of the quarter finals with a 2-1 win in Munich thanks to first half goals from Barella and Isigne. They also beat Austria 2-1 (Chielsa and Pessina) in the Round of 16 with all the goals arriving in extra time.

Italy topped Group A with a 100% record, playing all their matches in Rome. They beat Turkey 3-0 first up and further wins followed over Switzerland (also 3-0) and then Wales (1-0).

Italy's only European title came in 1968 and they were beaten finalists in 2000 and 2012.

England

A day after Italy confirmed their place in the final England took on Denmark at Wembley and they came through with a 2-1 win in extra time. They were 1-0 down on 30 minutes, conceding their first goal of the tournament but an own goal saw the teams go into half time level at 1-1 and there was no further scoring. England were awarded a penalty just before the end of the first extra period, Harry Kane's spot kick was saved but he followed up to put the rebound away and England can now look forward to their first ever European final.

England made short work of Ukraine in the quarter finals in Rome, coming through with a 4-0 win thanks to goals from Harry Kane (2), Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson. In the Round of 16 they were 2-0 winners against Germany with Sterling and Harry Kane scoring in the second half.

England topped Group D but goals were scarce. They beat Croatia 1-0 and then played out a 0-0 draw with Scotland followed by another 1-0 victory over the Czech's. Sterling scored the winner in both of those group stage victories.

Recent Head to Head

The teams met in friendly internationals in 2018 and 2015 and both games finished all square at 1-1.

In the 2014 World Cup Italy won a group stage match 2-1 but nether side made it to the knockout rounds.

The Verdict:

The match result betting tells a story of how this final will divide opinion among punters and I'm in the England camp.

Rather than take a straight win bet I will go with England to win 2-1 in 90 minutes. In case I'm wide of the mark I'm also backing 2-3 goals in total in 90 minutes.
