There will be another excellent event on the European Tour for fans to look forward to this weekend, as the Alfred Dunhill Championship will be taking place. But, which players will be the ones to watch at the event this weekend?

Alfred Dunhill Championship History

The event is one of just four events that is hosted in South Africa that is co-sanctioned by the European Tour. It is also part of the Sunshine Tour, and it has been an eye catching event on the calendar since being introduced for the first time in 2000. The first ever staging of the event came in January 2000, and was won by Anthony Wall by two strokes from Gary Orr and Phillip Price. Since then, there have been a number of famous names that have won the event, such as Adam Scott in 2001 and Justin Rose in 2002.

Back in 2004, the event was rescheduled so that it would take place later in the year, with this year being the first time that this event took place in December. This wasn’t the only change that was made to the event either, as it also moved home to the Leopard Creek Country Club and was officially made a part of the European Tour. Nowadays it is the biggest event on the South African golfing calendar, as it replaced the South African Open as the flagship golf event of the year.

There was no Alfred Dunhill Championship in 2017 due to renovations being made to the course, but there have been two thrilling instalments over the previous two years. David Lipsky won the event in 2018, as he won by two strokes from David Drysdale, before Pablo Larrazabal won the event last year as he won by a stroke from Joel Sjoholm. Charl Schwartzel holds the record for the best score on the course, as he won with a score of 264 in 2012. That was also the biggest winning margin, as he claimed success by 12 strokes from Kristoffer Broberg.

Standout Selections For The Alfred Dunhill Championship

Christian Bezuidenhout will likely go into the event as the huge favourite to win the event. However, his price with BetXChange may be too short for some gamblers. He has won three professional events throughout his career. He has also recorded two victories on the Sunshine Tour, with the most recent of those coming in the Dimension Data Pro-Am, as he won by one stroke from George Coetzee.

There will be a couple of players that could be worth a bit of money with BetXChange. One of those players will be Daniel van Tonder, who has been in excellent form recently. He has won four events on the Sunshine Tour this year, which includes a recent win in the Investec Royal Swazi Open. Meanwhile, Japanese star Masahiro Kawamura may also attract attention as he has been in tremendous form over recent weeks.
