There is exciting action on the European Tour this weekend as the Scottish Open takes place at The Renaissance Club. There is a lucrative purse available for the event, with players competing for their share of the prize fund, which stands at over $6 million. But, which players could be the main ones to watch in the BetXChange betting markets?

Event Overview & History

The Scottish Open is one of the major prep events before the start of the British Open, which takes place a week later. It has typically attracted a field of star players, as it is part of the lucrative Rolex Series. Therefore, it is one of eight events that are part of that series. There is a par 71 for the event, as players compete across 7,136 yards. The best aggregate score ever recorded in the event came in 2018, as Brandon Stone finished with a score of 260.

However, the best finishes to par both came the following year, as Benjamin Hebert and Bernd Wiesberger finished -22 under part. The stake are typically very high for the Scottish Open, as it is the last chance for players to earn their spot in the major the following week. Players that finish in the top three will earn their spot in the major if they haven’t already. There have been some illustrious winners of the event in the past ten years, including Phil Mickelson in 2013 and Justin Rose in 2014.

Market Leaders

The current market leader to win the event in 2021 is Jon Rahm. The Spanish star is the world number one, and has already shown his quality in the majors so far this season. Rahm won the recent US Open by one shot from Louis Oosthuizen. His most recent win before that major success came when winning the BMW Championship in August 2020. His form this term couldn’t be much better, as he also finished in the top ten in both the PGA Championship and Masters.

Xander Schauffele is also prominent in the betting for the Scottish Open this weekend. The American has won five professional events during his career and is currently ranked as the fourth best player in the world. He will be hoping to build momentum ahead of a renewed challenge for the Open this year, as he finished second in the major back in 2018. His last win came in the Sentry Tournament of Champions in 2019.

Rory McIlroy will also be looking to build momentum after dropping outside of the top ten in the recent rankings. That came after he finished in a tie for 59th in the recent Irish Open on the European Tour. It has been a disappointing season to this point for McIlroy, but he remains among the favourites to win the event this coming weekend.

Scottish Open Prediction

We will be siding with a player that has proven success on the tour, Bernd Wiesberger. He has won 12 professional events during his career, with eight of those victories coming on the European Tour. He won this event back in 2019, and has already won the Made in HimmerLand this season.

Pick: Bernd Wiesberger at 40.00 with BetXChange.
