Mumbai Indians host Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League on Wednesday, a do or die game for the home side whilst the visitors have plenty at stake as well.
After 3 successive wins Mumbai crashed to a 7 wicket defeat at home to Rajatshan Royals on Sunday when the Royals’ Joss Buttler made short work of chasing down 167 needed for victory. Mumbai now have a record of 5 wins and 7 defeats and even if they win their last 2 matches, this one and a visit to the Daredevils it remains to be seen whether that would be enough to squeeze into the play offs. Defeat here would see them eliminated.
The earlier meeting this season saw Mumbai win by 6 wickets at Indore after they chased down the 175 victory target with 1 over to spare.
Suryakumar Yadav is leading Mumbai run scorer with 473 runs in 11 knocks and Hardik Pandya has taken 18 wickets in 11 outings.
Kings XI Punjab
The Kings XI crashed to a 10 wicket defeat to RCB in a home fixture on Monday, bowled out for just 88 in the most one sided of contests. The damage to their net run rate saw them slip out of the play off places, they have now lost 5 of their last 6 and their overall record stands at 6 wins and 6 defeats.
After this KXP face a tough trip to the Super Kings and depending on how other results go they could need 2 wins to reach the play offs.
Lokesh Rahul has scored 558 runs in 12 knocks and Chris Gayle has 350 runs in 9 matches. With the ball, Andrew Tye has taken 20 wickets in 12 outings.
