Lions:

The Lions are the first local franchise to get a crack at the tourists who will then take on the Sharks, Bulls, South Africa A and the Stormers before the first test against the Boks on the 24th July.

A proud day and a huge task for the home side who won just 1 of 5 matches in the recent Rainbow Cup SA tournament and who's Currie Cup campaign has started with a 39-10 defeat away to the Pumas and a 38-32 home win over Western Province. The squad for this game looks stronger with the line up to be selected from the following pool of players.

PJ Botha, Ruan Dreyer, Jannie du Plessis, Jordan Hendrikse, Francke Horn, Daniel Kriel, Jaco Kriel, Rabs Maxwane, Nathan McBeth, Reinhard Nothnagel, Burger Odendaal, MJ Pelser, Mannie Rass, Carlu Sadie, Sibusiso Sangweni, Ruben Schoeman, S’bu Sithole, Dillon Smit, Ruhan Straeuli, Emmanuel Tshituka, Vincent Tshituka, Jamba Ulengo, Morne van den Berg, EW Viljoen, Jaco Visagie, Fred Zeilinga.

B&I Lions:

Before flying out to SA the B&I Lions took on Japan in Edinburgh last weekend. Japan were given a start of around 17.5 points on the pre-match handicap and that proved to be very accurate as the B&I Lions came out on top 28-10.

The B&I Lions, who were without a contingent of English club players, were 21-0 up after 23 minutes of the game against Japan and Josh Adams, Duhan van der Merwe, Robbie Henshaw, Tadgh Beirne were their try scorers. However victory was overshadowed by injury to skipper Alun Wyn Jones who will now miss this tour with Connor Murray now taking on the captains role. Justin Tipuric was also injured and subsequently ruled out of the tour and the replacements also come from Wales with Adam Beard and Josh Navidi called up.

Looking ahead a number of bookmakers are already offering a markets for the first test against the B&I Lions including World Sports Betting who's match result market currently has the Boks at 11/10, the draw at 25/1 and B&I Lions at 17/20.

Last Man Standing Competition

Big thanks to @hanrickswart who has been with us on Goodforthegame and the forum since inception for putting up a R500 cash prize to the winner of this fun and free to enter competition.

Full details of how to play are available on this thread on our discussion forum which is where you must also “place your bets”. Basically you are given a virtual R100 starting balance and you make one selection on every match of the B&I Lions tour, with the full amount win you go through to the next round with the new balance carried forward, lose and you're out, last man standing gets the prize.

Betting Angle

This should be a great watch as both teams love to throw it about. I expect the British & Irish Lions to win easily but the home team to score a couple of tries themselves and make the over 55.5 points a cracking bet

BET: 6 units over 55.5 points at 9/10 at Betxchange

Update 10h15 03 July

The points line moved out dramatically since the preview was posted and is now around 64.5 - assuming you missed the 55.5 above here is an alternative play I think is decent as I expect plenty of running rugby in this one

BET: 5 units B&I LIons over 6.5 tries at 10/11 at Sportingbet
