Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: BALUSTRADE(12)
Jockey: Callan MURRAY  - Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

BALUSTRADE attracted betting market on her highly promising debut over an extra furlong on this track earlier this month. The De Kock inmate was slow into stride but quickened smartly before being outrun late into 2nd by an experienced sort. She would have come on with that experience and that formline has worked out well since. The daughter of Bold Silvano should easily cope with this stiff sprint trip and she can pull off this competitive opening affair.

TOP BET

Race 2: SQUARE THE CIRCLE (8)
Jockey: Donavan MANSOUR - Trainer: Johan A Janse VAN VUUREN

SQUARE THE CIRCLE made the expected improvement when he was pipped by a highly rated newcomer in a competitive field over this c & d second time out. That formline has worked out very well since and this bay gelding should continue to progress. He should take all the beating in this line-up. The speedy filly SCHIPPERS was narrowly beaten into 2nd in both her sprints to date and her top class conditioner has equipped her with blinkers in the hope of sharpening her up further. The chestnut daughter of Var will again be ridden by Gavin Lerena and she is the obvious threat.

Race 3: MYFUNNYVALENTINE(7)
Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON - Trainer: Sean TARRY

The rapid SPRING WONDER accounted for a few of today's rivals over this c & d in a competitive handicap last month but may be pushed much harder at graded level this time around. The top selection MYFUNNYVALENTINE stayed on to finish just under three lengths adrift of the former that day but she is now 3.5kgs to the good and her conditioner is renowned for getting them spot-on on these 'big days'. The daughter of Captain Al holds a solid c & d record. Of course the former will still have many followers after that exciting victory which came at a cost of a six pound hike.

Race 11: DAWNBREAKER(11)
Jockey:  Keagan DE MELO  - Trainer: Candice DAWSON

This is a competitive seven furlong handicap which should be run at a decent tempo and that will favour the bottom weight DAWNBREAKER. The four-year old chestnut gelding bounced right back to form when going down narrowly to Sky High Flyer (runner-up subsequently) in his last sprint earlier this month and though he was rightly upped two pounds in his merit rating, he is 2kgs under sufferance today. However, the son of Trippi is capable in this higher company as his effort behind the talented Maximizer over this c & d on 22/04 shows.

VALUE BET

Race 4: WITCH OF THE WES(10)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Lucky HOUDALAKIS

This isn't a cut-and-dried Grade 3 contest despite the betting market suggesting otherwise as a sedate gallop is expected. WITCH OF THE WEST has improved rapidly since making her debut in late September and she caught the eye when finishing just over one length adrift of FOLK DANCE over seven furlongs in a feature earlier this month.
