Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: OSSETRA(1)
Jockey: Randall SIMONS- Trainer: Alec LAIRD

OSSETRA is improving with each start and she ran on well for 2nd behind a highly rated sort recently. That formline was boosted when the 3rd placed entrant Effortless had an easy subsequent victory. This daughter of Greys Inn clearly has scope for further progress and she should relish this rise in trip. She represents an in-form combination.

TOP BET

Race 3: VACQUERO(10)
Jockey: Muzi Yeni- Trainer: Robbie Sage

VACQUERO is well-related and he made the expected progress when running on smartly for a close 3rd behind two useful types over a mile on the standside course nine weeks ago. He was in turn more than four lengths clear of the next placed entrant and in fact, had the much improved ESCAMILLO more than a dozen lengths adrift in the same outing. This son of Silvano should love every bit of the extra furlong and will have plenty more to offer. He is his conditioner's solitary representative on the card.

Race 6: SMOKEY AFFAIR(4)
Jockey:  Callan MURRAY- Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

The Mike de Kock yard have enjoyed good success with former Cape residents recently and their new recruit SMOKEY AFFAIR could continue that trend today. The former inmate of the Mike Robinson stable showed much promise last campaign, including finishing a highly promising 4th behind another De Kock charge in the form of Ektifaa in a feature over seven furlongs at Kenilworth in just her fifth career start. She seems to have her niggles and returns from a long 26 week absence but the lightly raced daughter of Elusive Fort could realize her true potential on the Highveld. She is only slightly out at the weights on official ratings.

Race 7: SPRING INDEED(2)
Jockey:  Karl ZECHNER - Trainer: Sean TARRY

SPRING INDEED is in good form and she should have gone even closer to winning her last start but for severe traffic issues. Her top conditioner has kept faith with her experienced jockey and this track should suit the bay mare's shorter but extremely effective burst of speed. She is drawn well at gate 2 and has strong claims of going one better.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY:

Race 5: BANKABLE TEDDY(2)
Jockey: Weichong MARWING- Trainer: DAVID Nieuwenhuizen

Just seven runners head to post for this highly competitive handicap which features a few natural pacesetters and an exciting finish is expected. The likely solid gallop is bound to suit the top rating BANKABLE TEDDY who makes his seasonal debut. The five-year old gelding improved his formline since joining this yard and he was outrun late into 2nd in a Grade 3 event over a similar trip in his penultimate start. He had a fair last effort in a KZN feature on July Day and drops in class with top jockey Marwing in the saddle today.
