Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: LOBO'S LEGEND(11)
Jockey: A Marcus- Trainer: J A Soma

LOBO'S LEGEND is a promising sort who was carded to race on 02/12 so his progress there must be monitored. He is highly regarded by his yard and tried hard when pipped by a well-supported newcomer from the powerful Mike de Kock stable five weeks ago. That formline has worked out extremely well and the Trippi colt should continue to progress.

Race 2: SOME SONG(13)
Jockey: D Mansour Trainer: Janse van Vuuren

The riding engagements from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable indicate that SOME SONG is the yard's preference. Interestingly, this daughter of Oratorio debuted in a graduation plate over five furlongs in October. She faded badly after being slow into stride that day but is obviously highly rated by her in-form conditioner and she would have come on appreciably from the experience. She takes a big drop in class today.

TOP BET

Race 3: CARMALITA(1)
Jockey: P Strydom - Trainer: S M Ferreira

CARMALITA has continued her promise and the imported bay filly was caught late in a strong field over a similar distance at Turffontein on Summer Cup Day recently. She meets weaker rivals now and has strong claims of going one better. LUNAR DANCER had an eye-catching recent c & d showing in mixed company but it must be noted that she was carded to race on 02/12.

Race 9: REFUGE(14)
Jockey: P Strydom - Trainer: S W Kenny

REFUGE has tumbled nicely in the merit ratings and he reunites with his most successful pilot. The Toreador gelding is way better than his recent form indicates and he could heavily benefit from the equipping of blinkers. The four-year old represents excellent each/way value in this field. His stable companions VULCAN and TOKYO DRIFT are veteran campaigners who perhaps needed their respective comeback attempts recently and the pair had promising prior form in stronger company. They deservedly concede chunks of weight to the first selection though but should still be competitive with their top jockeys up.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: TWICE A DANCER(7)
Jockey:  L Hewitson  - Trainer: Sean TARRY

TWICE A DANCER is way better than his recent form indicates and barring traffic issues, he should have been much closer in his last start over ten furlongs on the classic track. He takes on some useful opposition here but was rather kindly docked five pounds in his rating and should take full advantage of that. The son of Twice Over may eventually need to be gelded but he is one worth following.
