Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: LINNGER LONGER(3)
Jockey: P Strydom  - Trainer: G M Alexander

LINNGER LONGER, like many of his rivals was soundly thrashed by the exciting debutant San Fermin three weeks ago. However, this daughter of Linngari produced a much improved effort as she made late headway for 3rd, albeit just over three lengths adrift of the runner-up. Interestingly, the 6th placed entrant Kantara Queen shed her maiden tag subsequently. Top jockey Strydom rides the Alexander yard's only runner on the day.

Race 3: MATCHMAKER(1)
Jockey: P Strydom- Trainer: A J Soma

MATCHMAKER is plagued with issues but the lightly raced five-year old has obvious ability as was evident from his two useful comeback efforts. He was outrun late into 2nd by a decent sort over this c & d recently and should confirm the formline with the 3rd placed entrant MISTER LISTER who finished just over half a length adrift.

Race 6: MARMOOK(8)
Jockey: A Delpech- Trainer: F M De Kock

A most intriguing topliner over five furlongs purely due to the riding engagements as Mauritzfontein retained jockey Delpech has opted for the smart imported three-year old MARMOOK from the powerful Mike de Kock yard. This lightly raced brown gelding benefitted from the unkindest cut of all as he kept going to win his comeback attempt over this c & d three weeks ago. Admittedly, he takes on considerab- ly stronger rivals now but has much scope for progress and he will be fitter. He should prove equal to the task at hand

TOP BET

Race 8: SESS(9)
Jockey: K Zechner - Trainer: M G & A Azzie

A big field faces the starter for this mile and a half handicap where another Azzie inmate in the form of SESS should be highly competitive. This imported colt has shown considerable improvement since trying ground in his last two starts. He proved that his facile maiden victory over this c & d was no fluke as the son of Pluck fought hard for a narrow defeat after setting the pace on his handicap debut in a strong field over further ten days ago. He beat today's joint top weight STUNNED by just over six lengths in that recent effort and is only 0.5kg worse off despite the resultant six pound penalty. The three-year old bay colt has much room for improvement and he is still ahead of the handicapper.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 1: JUDD'S ROCKET(2)
Jockey: G Lerena - Trainer: C Dawson

JUDD'S ROCKET was bitterly disappointing in his second start in this province but the Judpot gelding may have still felt the effects of his exertions in that promising local debut. Of course he was returning from a 20 week absence when he ran on smartly for a close 3rd in that seven furlong event and the chestnut can quickly bounce back to best here. He has a good draw and will be cherry-ripe. His stablemate is an extremely well-related first timer who has drawn pole position and should be closely monitored in the betting exchanges with top youngster Hewitson in the saddle. This three-year old bay colt is by Silvano and he is the half-brother to former Grade 1 winner Thunder Dance who is of course the mother of Fillies Guineas hopeful Love Supreme.
