Race 1

POTENTE finished 0.3 lengths behind BIG SLICK last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He was reported to be lame on his left fore that day which makes the effort that much more encouraging. The son of Var is a progressive type and can go one better here.

CAPTAIN CATMAN finished 1.35 lengths behind BIG SLICK in the race referred to above. He is also 3kgs better off at the weights. The son of Captain Of All would have gained from the experience and should love the extra furlong on offer.

BIG SLICK was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start. The saddle was reported to have slipped that day which makes the victory that much more encouraging. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth has come out and won since. Robert Khathi retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 2

This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is BELLE’S FIRST WAVE from the Lorenzo Karriem yard. He set the pace over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish third. He meets a similar type of field this afternoon and may be the one to side with.

THE GREEN GALLANT finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms and there should not be much separating them at the wire.

GREY LINNGARI finished 0.65 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. Warren Kennedy knows him well and he will be staying on at the business end.

Race 3

MR MASTER STARTER is better than his last two starts suggest. He returns from a 13-week break, which may have done him the world of good. He showed good ability in his earlier races and has taken a small drop in the ratings. He tries the Polytrack for the first time and if suited, he can notch up his third career victory.

SPIRIT OF MY FATE won a good race when going from gun to tape. He has won once and finished second twice from four starts over this C&D. He meets a similar type of field and can follow up.

KUUMA finished 1 length behind the second choice last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.

Race 4

DESERT PRIDE has shown signs of a form return in her last two starts. The manner in which she stayed on over 1200m against male company last time was encouraging. Her last victory came over this trip. She is back against her own sex and if suited to the Polytrack surface, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

CRAZY BLUES has decent consistent form lines to her credit. She has won once, finished second twice and third once from five starts over this distance. She takes a drop in class and may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.

THERE SHE GOES hails from the visiting Weiho Marwing stable. She ran a good race when finishing second over 1200m on this course, six weeks ago. She should have no issues with the 1400m and if keeping on a straight line, she can feature.

Race 5

RAIN WEAR won a good race in her last start over this C&D, despite racing wide around the turn. The manner in which she quickened up and drew away from the opposition was eye-catching. Keagan de Melo retains the ride and the combination should be hard to beat.

OWLETTE ran on well to win her last start over 1400m on this course. She received a four-pound penalty for that victory and with a bit of luck from the widest draw, she can follow up.

RAINBOW UNICORN finished 4.55 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 4kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

Race 6

LUNA ECLIPSE ran a good race when finishing second over this C&D, five weeks ago. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. She is likely to have her own way in front and may be hard to peg back.

DEMIGOD finished 0.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms this afternoon and there should not be much separating them where it matters most.

WINTER’S DESTINY has produced two good second-place finishes since winning her maiden. The manner in which she finishes off her races suggests that she will enjoy the rise to the mile. Despite her big mass of 60.5kgs, she should go close to winning.

Race 7

STANLEY should have finished closer in his last start over this C&D as he had to be switched at the 200m mark. The 5yo gelding is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. With a bit of luck in running, he can return to winning ways.

TECHNO SAVVY ran a good race when finishing third over 2000m on this course. He takes a drop in class and from pole position, he should pose a massive threat.

ADMIRAL BIRNHAM ran a fair race in his last start over this distance on the turf. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He carries a big mass of 61.5kgs and will be staying on at the business end.

Race 8

DOUBLE MARTINI has returned to best form after returning from a 15-week break. He was unlucky last time as he hung inwards in the straight and had to be switched at the 200m mark. He takes a drop in class and is having his peak run today. If all went well with his travels, he should be the one to beat.

DON’T TOUCH ME set the pace in his last start over this C&D, but found one too good in the form of SyX Hotfix. He has won twice, finished second twice and third three times from ten starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

CAPETOWN AFFAIR has finished second in his last two starts on this course, under 1.5kgs claiming apprentice Kaidan Brewer. He is having his peak run today and should have a say in the outcome of this contest
