Race 1

BELL STARBUSTER moved up well in her last start over 1750m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville but was outrun late by Sparkling Flame. Her penultimate run when finishing second over this C&D was encouraging. She jumps from pole position and in this type of field, she should take a power of beating.

DEMIGOD’S last three starts have been fair. The manner in which she finishes off her races suggests that she will be at home over the mile. If not in need of the run, she should be one of the leading contenders.

AMERICAN STYLE is an unraced daughter of Great Britain from the Alyson Wright stable with Ashton Arries in the saddle. She is related to six-time winner Expressfromtheus. If not too green, she should get her career off to a positive start. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

Race 2

TELL MY FORTUNE showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She was carried outwards at the start, but moved up well and fought hard all the way to the line. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. Warren Kennedy steps into the saddle and if confirming her recent improvement, she should shed her maiden tag.

IRON CHEF ran a fair race in her first outing with the tongue-tie fitted. She raced wide around the turn, but stayed on at the finish. She tries the 2000m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should pose a massive threat.

HE’SMAKINGEYESATME showed some improvement in her last start against male company. She is back against her own sex and may be hard to peg back.

Race 3

RUN TO DENMARK went from gun to tape when winning his last start over this C&D. He was reported to have cast a shoe-in running that day which makes the victory that much more encouraging. He takes a slight drop in class and despite his big mass of 60.5kgs, he may be hard to catch.

IBUTHO was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1900m on this course. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory and against a similar type of field, he can follow up.

JACQUELINE’S last three starts have been very good. She has won twice and finished second twice from five starts on this course. She always gives of her best and from pole position, she should give the males a run for their money.

Race 4

HOT MONEY was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over 1400m on this course. She has won once and finished third twice from six starts over this distance. She runs well for jockey Donovan Dillon and is the horse to beat.

LUNDY ISLAND finished 2 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.

LADY YUSRA finished 1.5 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

Race 5

KINGS ROAD took on much stronger in the Grade 3 Tommy Hotspur Stakes last time. He won a good race in his penultimate start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. He has won four times and finished second once from six starts over this C&D. He is likely to race on the speed from pole position and may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

FILIPPO finished 0.7 lengths behind PRINCEKRESH last time. He is 6kgs better off at the weights today which is enough for the tables to be turned. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

ULTRA MAGNUS was not disgraced when finishing fifth over 1160m in the Grade 3 Merchants last time. He returns from an 11-week break which may have done him the world of good. He is no stranger to carrying big weights and merits healthy respect.

Race 6

PELARGONIUM took on stronger opposition in her last start over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She finished third in her only attempt over this distance as a younger horse. She takes a drop-in class and from her good draw of two, she can return to winning ways.

BRUNILDA has good consistent form lines to her credit. It must be noted that the form of her last outing has been franked. She has won once and finished second twice from as many starts over this C&D. Serino Moodley retains the ride and she should go close to winning.

MAIDENS PRAYER was a tad disappointing in her last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. On best form shown, she should fight out the finish.

Race 7

TAMBORA showed good signs of a form return when finishing fourth over this distance at the Vaal last time. He was unlucky that day as he had to be steadied at the 200m mark. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. With a bit of luck in running, he can return to winning ways. He is carded to race on 10 February 2022 and his progress in that race will need to be checked.

WHITE CEDAR is better than his last start when taking on stronger. His penultimate win over this C&D was encouraging. He does have a wide draw to overcome, but is likely to use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.

PHILISPIEL has returned to form in his last two starts. He should have finished closer last time as he hung in the closing stages. The slight concern is that he is yet to place on this course from six attempts.

Race 8

ONE SHOT WONDER raced from a handy position over the 1600m last time and rallied late to finish second. He finished third in his penultimate effort on this course. He is likely to race on the speed from his wide draw and may be hard to peg back.

METALLIC GOLD finished 1.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

PURPLE OPERATOR raced from a handy position over this C&D last time, rallied late but found one too good in the form of Protea Pride. He gets the blinkers fitted which should keep his mind on the task at hand. From his good draw of four, he merits obvious inclusion.
