TOP BET FOR TODAY

Race 1: CABO DA CRUZ(6)
Jockey: S Veale - Trainer: D Drier

CABO DA CRUZ was heavily supported when he caught the eye despite perhaps just needing his debut experience over six furlongs on the grass late last month. The imported bay colt from the Drier camp should relish every bit of the step-up to the mile and could take a power of beating if handling this surface.

Race 4: THE KING OF RANDOM(10)
Jockey: G V.Niekerk - Trainer: M Roberts

THE KING OF RANDOM quickly got back to form when he ran on strongly for 2nd behind his well-ridden stablemate GREAT DICTATOR (1kg worse off) over this c & d last month and he can exact revenge with his top visiting jockey retaining the ride. The latter was upped three pounds for his exertions but the track specialist should produce another honest performance.

Race 6: MATADOR MAN(4)
Jockey:  L Hewitson  - Trainer: S Tarry

The day's topliner features a smart field of entrants who look to cement their place in the country's most prestigious event earlier on in July. Trainer Sean Tarry's Toreador gelding MATADOR MAN enjoyed the highlight of his career over a similar trip on this course at the highest level when he finished 3rd behind Sail South and Captain America late last season. The four-year old battled to recapture that form on the Highveld this campaign but blinkers resulted in a confidence boosting winning effort in lesser company last time out and this bay could again blossom in this province. He is an early July prospect who needs victory in this event to qualify for the showpiece.

Race 7: AFRICAN NIGHT SKY(3)
Jockey:  G V.Niekerk     - Trainer: J Snaith

The classy Winter Series victor AFRICAN NIGHT SKY makes his eagerly anticipated local debut and though the son of Dynasty won't be fully tuned-up and is slightly out at the weights, he could still take all the beating. Of course he was beaten just two lengths in the Met earlier this year and is another who is definitely on the shortlist for the 'July'. His conditioner will ensure that he goes into the big race well-handicapped.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY

Race 3: LONDON KNIGHT(9)
Jockey: A Mgudlwa    - Trainer: G Puller

The speedy LONDON KNIGHT was the subject of a really ordinary ride by his experienced jockey last time and hardly surprisingly the bay gelding folded in the straight after he chased up the leader. The form shows that he has much to find with the bottom weights but the best drawn son of Great Britain could be an entirely different proposition with his regular pilot back in the irons today.
