TOP BET FOR TODAY

Race 4: SUGAR GIRL(2)
Jockey: K De Melo  - Trainer: D Kannemeyer

The likely lack of pace in this small field makes for an interesting contest which could see the emergence of the Kannemeyer inmate, SUGAR GIRL. This three-year old daughter of Trippi has won two of her three career starts, the latest in impressive fashion on the polytrack on local debut. She is bred to love this rise to the mile and can pull this off despite being 1kg worse off with the best weighted entrant PREMIER DANCE.

Race 5: AFRICAN NIGHT SKY(3)
Jockey: G V.Niekerk - Trainer: J Snaith

In stark contrast to the prior event, this Grade 3 nine furlong contest should be run at a strong tempo and that will suit the Durban July favourite, AFRICAN NIGHT SKY who should build on his excellent local debut despite a very ordinary ride. The extra furlong will suit last season's Winter Series champion perfectly but the obvious worry is that this event often throws out an upset. That said, this run will bring him on smartly for the big event early next month.

Race 6: THE SECRET IS OUT(2)
Jockey:  M Byleveld - Trainer: V Marshall

THE SECRET IS OUT has her issues but the top quality daughter of Captain Al has kept her form really well nonetheless. She had two impressive comeback feature sprints in this province and her latest outing at the highest level clearly indicated that she is searching for further nowadays. The bay filly has placed over this trip and she can pull this off from her good draw. The Marshall inmate is best treated at the weights on official ratings.

Race 7: CAPTAIN AMERICA(1)
Jockey:  C Orffer - Trainer: B Crawford

The defending champion and mile specialist CAPTAIN AMERICA races fresh after a 19 week absence follow- ing his creditable display in the Met but his top class conditioner will have him spot-on and the relentless galloper could again be the one to beat. His stablemate SAIL SOUTH, in contrast, has had a prep outing in the province and he will strip much fitter today. He got much closer to the first selection than expected in the Queen's Plate but the latter may still have the edge on this short run- in.

Race 2: BARRACK STREET(10)
Jockey: L Hewitson   - Trainer: S Tarry

BARRACK STREET had an encouraging comeback run in Gauteng recently and should strip fitter today. Interestingly, the Tarry inmate was beaten just under four lengths by SPEEDPOINT when the pair clashed in the 'Mother City' in the summer but is now a whopping 12kgs to the good and he also jumps from a good draw. SIR FRENCHIE is also better than some of his recent form and does seem to reserve his best performances for this jockey.
