Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: RUNNING FURY(3)
Jockey: P Strydom  - Trainer: G Walker

RUNNING FURY is a long-time maiden but with solid recent form and he produced a creditable latest outing despite racing wide. The four-year old chestnut finish exactly one length adrift of the former Cape resident THE BARRY BURN that day and he should be highly competitive over this ideal c & d. The latter was returning from a lengthy 35 week absence when he was nabbed late on local debut nine days ago and he will certainly strip fitter now. He still has much room for improvement but the concern is whether he races too soon.

TOP BET

Race 3: CONDOR GULCH(1)
Jockey: R Simons    - Trainer:  M De Kock

CONDOR GULCH is a lightly raced imported colt who has shown fair ability up to a mile but is clearly searching for this test of stamina and can show his true worth today. He has exactly half a length to find with the capable but injury plagued Tarry inmate ROYAL PURSUIT on their recent mile clash but his favourable draw could hand him the advantage.

Race 4: EVOLVER(3)
Jockey: P Strydom    - Trainer: A Fortune

The former Cape resident EVOLVER thrashed his maiden rivals on local debut over slightly shorter last month and could have a decent future over staying trips on the Highveld. Of course he faces a serious test on his handicap debut today but could still be ahead of the handicapper. SIDE SHOW was making late headway in a highly competitive handicap over this trip and he should be involved in the finish at this lesser level despite facing SON OF A LEGEND on 1.5kgs worse terms for a neck defeat.

Race 7: NAUTIC SPIRIT(5)
Jockey: S Khumalo  - Trainer: P Peter

The fast improving NAUTIC SPIRIT may still be ahead of the handicapper after a resultant three pound penalty for her fluent recent c & d win and she can follow up on her peak run. Of course she had the track specialist NINJARA comfortably behind her that day and should still have the latter's measure despite being 2kgs worse off.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 2: ELANGENI(2)
Jockey: R Danielson     - Trainer - R Magner

ELANGENI should build on her eye-catching recent career best performance on the Classic Track and her in-form jockey retains the ride. The juvenile SAINTS ALIVE was a tad disappointing when she only managed a weak third after hanging badly in her second start but the well-related bay filly should have more to offer. That said, the runner-up of that outing Favourite Model could only finish a weak 4th subsequently which dampens the formline slightly.
