Race 1

HAIR TRIGGER ran a fair race on debut over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. He received a bump leaving the start that day which didn’t help his chances. It must be noted that Pistol Pete has come out and won again since. The son of Fire Away would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1450m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he may be the one to beat.

WILD AT WAR took on winners on debut. He was slow into stride, raced green but stayed on at the finish. He takes on Maiden Company and will enjoy the rise to 1450m. The son of Danon Platina is one of the leading contenders.

SUNSET RIOT ran a fair race on debut over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. He would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1450m. The son of Rafeef should make the natural progression.

Race 2

ERUPT THE DAWN produced a promising debut effort over 1700m on the Vaal Classic course. She jumped outwards leaving the start, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of Erupt would have gained from the experience and will love the rise to 2000m. With the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to beat.

SAY IT WITH ROSES should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung in the final 600m. The manner in which she finished off her penultimate run suggests that she will love the rise to 2000m. The daughter of Flower Alley is one of the leading contenders.

DARLING HARBOUR ran a fair race over 1800m on the Standside course last time. She finished second in her only attempt over this distance. From pole position, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 3

POLICY OF TRUTH did not settle in the early stages of his last start, raced wide around the turn but stayed on to finish third. The son of Master Of My Fate is holding his form and Calvin Habib may be able to get the best out of him where it matters most.

TWO MILES WEST ran a fair race over 1400m on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that Presley has come out and won again since. If seeing out the mile, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

BREATH OF MAGIC showed good improvement in his last start over 1450m on this course. He steps back up to the mile and if confirming his recent improvement, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 4

THING CALLED LOVE showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She raced from just off the pace, moved up but was outrun late by Sakhala Is’cathulo. The daughter of Rafeef would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She meets the right field and should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

ENCHANTING LADY has fair recent form lines to her credit. The daughter of William Longsword will love the drop back to 1000m. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

WAITFORGREENLIGHT should have finished closer to the winner last time as she had to be switched at the 300m mark. Apprentice Trent Mayhew retains the ride and with luck in running, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest. B

Race 5

IN THE ETHER ran on powerfully to win her last start over this C&D. The daughter of Announce received a five-pound penalty for that victory. She meets a similar line-up this afternoon and can follow up.

SMELTING finished 3.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

RISKY BUSINESS finished 1.3 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 2kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around. Muzi Yeni takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

Race 6

TIME FO ORCHIDS is unbeaten from two starts for the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable. She showed good speed over 1160m on the Standside course last time and won with a ton in hand. Her penultimate victory was equally impressive over this distance. The daughter of Time Thief is the form horse in this contest and she can notch up the hat-trick.

PROPHET returns from a 29-week break which may have done him the world of good. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts on this course. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes 4kgs off his back and if fit, he should give a good account of himself.

ROCKETS RED GLARE returns from a lengthy 34-week break. He is a horse with ability and if jumping on terms, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 7

KING RAHUL stayed on at the finish over 1400m last time, but found one too good in the form of Fulliautomatix who has come out and won again since. The son of Captain Of All is having his peak run and will be cherry-ripe. He should have no issues with the rise to 1500m and with luck in running, he can return to winning ways.

CERULEAN DANCER showed good speed when winning her last start over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course. She finished second in her only attempt over this distance. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and the pair can follow up.

GIMME THE FLAME finished 1 length behind the top choice last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them at the finish. G

Race 8

SAGE KING showed good signs of a form return over 1600m on this course last time. He stayed on nicely at the finish that day but found one too good in the form of Warhawk Bomber. 4kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew retains the ride and from his good draw of two, he can go one better.

WILLOW EXPRESS has fair consistent form lines to his name. He has won twice and finished second once from eight starts on this course. He has dropped to a competitive rating and must be included in all bets.

WALLED GARDEN won a good race when shedding his maiden tag at the second time of asking. He returns from a 16-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. The son of Flower Alley has plenty of scope and should give a good account of himself
