Cape Town City v Kaizer Chiefs

Match Result Betting

Cape Town City 31/20 Draw 41/20 Kaizer Chiefs 2/1

Since the previous round of league matches City have secured a place in the MTN8 final, coming through a penalty shoot out with Sundowns after their semi final finished locked up at 1-1 over the 2 legs. That final takes place towards the end of this month but first City will be looking to improve on their mid table Absa Premiership position.

City’s 4 league outings have produced 1 win, 2 draws and 1 defeat. Their 2 home games delivered a 2-0 win over Supersport and 0-0 draw with Golden Arrows and they have yet to concede a goal in front of their own supporters this season.

Chiefs failed to match City’s achievement in the MTN8 as they bowed out to Supersport in their semi final, losing 3-2 on aggregate over the 2 legs. They now re-focus on league action in a lowly thirteenth position after failing to win any of their first 5 Absa Premiership outings. Of those 5 league games 4 have finished all square and Chiefs have passed up opportunities to secure maximum points including a 2-2 draw at home to Bloem Celtic, a game they led 2-0 deep into the second half. Away from home Chiefs failed to break down 10 man Maritzburg in a 0-0 draw whilst they also drew at Baroka and Sundowns (both 1-1).

Chiefs completed the double over City in the 2 league meetings last season, winning 2-0 in Cape Town and 1-0 in the return.

The international break has given underperforming Chiefs the chance to regroup but they come up against a team who have been solid at home and I wouldn’t be surprised if this finished all square.

Bet: Match result draw at 41/20

Chippa United v Baroka FC

Match Result Betting

Chippa United 2/1 Draw 19/10 Baroka FC 31/20

Chippa are bottom of the standings with just a single point to show for their first 4 league outings. Eric Tinkler took charge for the first time when Chippa were beaten 2-1 at Supersport in their latest outing. Tinkler had replaced Dan Malesela who oversaw defeats at Bloem Celtic (2-0) and at home to Pirates (1-0) and a 2-2 draw at home to Black Leopards wasn’t enough to save his job.

Baroka have played 5 league games, earning 5 points in the process. It could be worth noting that all those points were gained in home fixtures and their 2 defeats so far came on the road, 2-0 at Polokwane and 1-0 at Amazulu.

Baroka were 3-1 winners away to Chippa last season and the return finished without a goal.

Chippa have done little to warrant any confidence among punters but Baroka have lost both road trips and this could be a chance for Tinkler and his team to chalk up a vital first win.

Bet: Home win at 2/1

Maritzburg Utd v Bidvest Wits

Match Result Betting

Maritzburg Utd 53/20 Draw 9/4 Bidvest Wits 11/10

After a cracking season last time around Maritzburg are finding it tough going. They have played just the 3 league games but only a single point has been banked. To be fair that point was an excellent effort as they held out for a 0-0 draw at home to Chiefs despite playing the vast majority of the game with 10 men. That game came back on 17th August and they haven’t been out since. The Team of Choice lost their first 2 league matches of the campaign, 2-0 at home to Arrows and 2-1 at Free State Stars.

Wits went into the international break at the top of the standings with 4 wins and 1 defeat against their name. The Clever Boys won each of their first 3 matches, 3-0 at home to Free State, 3-1 away to Chiefs and 1-0 at Pirates before suffering their only defeat 1-0 at home to Supersport. In their most recent outing they returned to the winners enclosure, 3-0 at home to Amazulu.

This fixture ended without a goal last season and Wits won the return 2-1.

Maritzburg could be a bit rusty here although gut feel is that they could still run Wits close. Form suggests the away win is the logical option but I’ll side with 2-3 goals in total here.

Bet: Total match goals 2-3 at 9/10

Orlando Pirates v Supersport United

Match Result Betting

Orlando Pirates 12/10 Draw 2/1 Supersport United 27/10

Pirates have played 5 matches so far and their results have been decidedly mixed. Of 2 home games in the league they had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Highlands Park and they were beaten 1-0 by Wits. Their 2 victories came on the road, at Chippa (1-0) and Leopards (2-1) and they lost 1 other road trip at Bloem Celtic (1-0).

Since losing their opening league game 2-0 at Cape Town City, Supersport have reeled off 3 straight wins to climb up to third in the standings. They are 2 points better off than the Bucs and also have a game in hand after home wins against Amazulu (1-0) and Chippa (2-1) either side of a 1-0 victory away to Wits.

Supersport have already had the better of Pirates this season although penalty kicks were needed to knock the Bucs out of the MTN8 quarter finals after a 2-2 draw in Orlando. Supersport went on to clinch a place in the final of that competition after a 3-2 aggregate win over Chiefs in the semi’s.

The recent MTN8 cup tie between these sides was very entertaining and although its league points which are at stake here, I can see both sides finding the net.

Bet: Both teams to score? (yes) at 9/10

Polokwane City v Free State Stars

Match Result Betting

Polokwane City 15/10 Draw 19/10 Free State Stars 22/10

Both of these sides have records of 4 points from 4 outings. Polokwane’s only win so far came in a home fixture, 2-0 over Baroka in their third outing and they followed up with a 1-1 draw at Golden Arrows last time out.

Free State have lost both of their road trips so far, 3-0 at Wits and 2-1 at Amazulu. Their only win came 2-1 at home to Mariztburg and most recently another home fixture saw them share 4 goals with Cape Town City.

Free State won 3-2 in Polokwane last season and the return finished without a goal.

This looks as tricky as it gets so the draw becomes something of a fall back option.

Bet: Match result draw at 19/10
