Maritzburg have been unable to reproduce the sort of form that took them to a top 4 finish last season. After a poor start they did show signs of a revival but they remain stuck on just the 1 win from 8 league outings. Scoring goals has been the big problem with the Team of Choice having found the net just twice in the league this season. At the other end of the park they have conceded just 5 and the lack of entertainment is reflected in the stats which show their last 3 Absa Premiership home fixtures have finished 0-0. If you throw in a 2-0 home defeat to Arrows on the opening weekend the conclusion is that Maritzburg have yet to score in front of their own supporters in the league this season.

Maritzburg come into the game with just 2 sides below them in the standings although they do have games in hand on the other strugglers. Last weekend they lost a Telkom Knockout tie 2-1 at home to Wits although in the first round of that competition they did beat Highlands by the same scoreline at the Harry Gwala.

Highlands Park have a record of 2 wins, 5 draws and 2 defeats. They started the season with 4 successive draws and the 2 wins came in home fixtures against Arrows and Chippa (both 2-1). On the road they have taken useful points from visits to Pirates and Sundowns, they also drew at Baroka but lost at Free State Stars and Wits (both 1-0).

Highlands have scored 8 league goals and conceded the same number in their 9 league outings and victory here would take them into a mid table position.

Verdict:

The draw has obvious claims but given they beat Highlands in the cup here I’ll side with the home team although I have only minimal enthusiasm for this betting heat. Better propositions for a financial interest will come in the remainder of the weekend program.

Bet: Home win at 29/20
