Weather Forecast – Cape Town

Western Province:

After suffering back to back defeats at home to Griquas (30-28) and away to the Cheetahs (38-21) WP made the trip to Nelspruit to take on the Pumas last weekend. The game was priced up as “choice” by bookmakers but Province ran out comfortable winners 37-23, picking up a bonus point against a side who were previously undefeated on home turf.

In earlier results WP edged a home fixture against the Sharks 32-31 with a late penalty. They spent the first 2 rounds in Gauteng starting with a 48-24 win over a second string Bulls side at Loftus but although they were 8.5 point favourites for a visit to the Lions next time out they were beaten 38-32.

With 3 wins and 3 defeats WP are the only side in the competition to have avoided a cancellation so far and they have earned 17 log points.

Bulls:

The Bulls were subject to market confidence for last week's home game against the Lions and the obliged for punters who took the -13.5 handicap with a 40-21 bonus point win, scoring 6 tries to 3.

That was the first time we had seen the Bulls in Currie Cup action since they hosted the Pumas in Round 2, a game they won 32-27, earning a bonus point with 4 tries and their next 3 matches were cancelled.

The Bulls defence of the Currie Cup title started in unusual circumstances in Round 1 when their first teamers were not available for a home fixture against Western Province due to their involvement in the Rainbow Cup final in Italy. The Bulls lost the game 48-24 but they did pick up a consolation bonus point for scoring 4 tries.

Betting Angle

My first instinct was Bulls minus based on their recent performances and the depth of their squad. Listening to Neal @ThoughtsonSports on last nights betting show THE HANDICAP though I have changed my mind. WP have named a decent side and as Neal pointed out that will be giving it their all in the final Newlands game (yes another farewell) and add to that they have a great record against the Bulls at Newlands.

Bet: 5 units WP +7.5 at 9/10 at Betxchange
