Weather Forecast – Melbourne

Rebels:

The Rebels crashed and burned 71-28 to the Blues at Eden Park last week, another heavy defeat to a New Zealand side after they were beaten 52-17 by the Crusaders in Melbourne in Super Round.

In between those defeats the Rebels beat Moana Pasifika 26-22 in Melbourne, surviving a late comeback and finishing the game with 14 men after having Ray Nu'u red carded.

The Rebels only other wins came at home to Fijian Drua (42-27) and 22-21 away to the Force in Perth.

With 3 wins and 8 defeats against their name the Rebels come into this round fourth from bottom in the standings with 15 log points.

Chiefs:

The Chiefs were 7.5 point favourites on the handicap for last week's clash with the Brumbies in Hamilton but they lost the game 38-28.

Earlier games against Australian opposition had seen the Chiefs (-5.5 points on the handicap) hold out for a 27-25 win over the Reds in Brisbane and they won their Super Round match against the Waratahs at this venue 51-27, covering a 16.5 point handicap.

The Chiefs have 7 wins and 4 defeats against their name and they finished Round 12 in fourth position with 32 log points, 7 shy of the Crusaders, 11 behind of the Brumbies and 13 adrift of the Blues.

In the outright betting the Chiefs are trading at around 7/1 to win the tournament.

Betting Angle

As Thoughts on Sports said on last night’s show either back the Chiefs on the handicap or leave this handicap alone because it is impossible to have faith in the Rebels. For now I am going to leave the cap alone and will wait for points lines before posting my bet on this one.

Update 21h30 14 May

The points line is 56/57 and although a ouple of points higher than I had hoped conditions look great and the surface is excellent. I am on the overs
