Netherlands evens Draw 23/10 USA 31/10 (90 mins)

Netherlands

The Netherlands topped Group A, unbeaten with 2 wins and 1 draw, 1 point clear of Senegal.

They started with a 2-0 win over Senegal with both their goals arriving in the closing stages of the game. Next time out they took a early lead against Ecuador but were pegged back shortly after the break and the game ended 1-1. The Dutch then sealed top spot with a routine 2-0 win over host nation Qatar.

Cody Gakpo has been the man to follow for first goal scorer backers, he obliged in all 3 group matches.

In the outright betting to win the tournament the Netherlands are trading at around 20/1

USA

The USA arrive in the knockout rounds unbeaten after finishing runners up to England in Group B.

Tim Weah put the USA ahead against Wales in the first half of their opening match but they were unable to dominate after the break and paid the price with a late Welsh penalty for a 1-1 draw.

USA held England to a 0-0 draw in their second outing, a forgettable game but a result which set up a virtual eliminator with Iran.

USA needed to win that final group match whilst a draw would have been sufficient for Iran and Christian Pulisic scored the only goal of the game late in the first half.

In the outright betting to win the tournament USA are trading at around 100/1

The Verdict:

Christian Pulisic was injured for USA in scoring the vital winner against Iran and his fitness will be worth monitoring as although they have played really well, they look a touch short on creativity.

Cody Gakpo aside I haven't been that that impressed with Dutch so far but they brought a terrific run of form into these finals and we may not have seen the best of them yet.

Given his record in the group stage I was surprised to see 3/1 about Gakpo scoring anytime

Argentina 1/ 5 Draw 11/2 Australia 14/1 (90 mins)

Argentina

Argentina topped Group C with 6 points, 2 clear of Poland who edged out Mexico on goal difference.

In their opening match Lionel Messi put Argentina in front from the penalty spot against Saudi Arabia. It could have been 4 or 5 by half time but they failed to add to their tally and amazingly Saudi turned it around in the second half to win 2-1.

Argentina put themselves on the board with a 2-0 win over Mexico in their second group match. Messi opened the scoring on 64 minutes and Enzo Fernandez scored a cracker of a second.

Coming into their final group match all 4 nations had some sort of chance to qualify and Argentina held their nerve with a 2-0 win over Poland thanks to goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez.

In the outright betting to win the tournament Argentina are trading at around 5/1

Australia

Australia were surprise qualifiers from Group D, finishing behind France on goal difference with 2 wins and 1 defeat with Denmark the main casualties.

Australia came up against France in their opening match, they took a ninth minute lead through Craig Goodwin but were 2-1 down shortly afterwards. Two further French goals followed in the second half and the final score was 4-1.

A Mitchell Duke goal midway through the first half gave Australia a 1-0 win over Tunisia and in their final match they were also 1-0 winners against Denmark with Mathew Leckie scoring the decisive goal on the hour mark.

In the outright betting to win the tournament Australia are trading at around 200/1

The Verdict:

Australia were terrific in their group whilst Argentina played 5 solid halves of football and somehow came unstuck against the Saudi's in a game they should have had wrapped up by half time. Messi has been their most impressive performer and I feel they will have too much for the Aussies.

Finding a bet in my usual price range sends me to the total corners market and over 9.5 is my play with the bulk of those likely to be awarded to the South American's
