FranceEuroA number of European heavyweight's are in action in the latest round of World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday when the likes of Portugal, France and Denmark are all short prices.

Group A Portugal 1 / 5 Draw 9/2 Ireland 13/1

Portugal and Serbia top this group with 7 points, Luxembourg have 3, Ireland and Azerbaijan have yet to earn a point.

Portugal started their qualifying campaign back in March with a 1-0 win over Azerbaijan and a 2-2 draw in Serbia. They were 3-1 winners in Luxembourg and their more recent form in the Euro's saw them win 3-0 in Hungary before a 4-2 defeat to Germany and 2-2 draw with France. In the first knockout round they were beaten 1-0 by Belgium.

Ireland are not in good space right now and although they gave Serbia a run for their money, losing 3-2 away from home, a 1-0 home defeat to Luxembourg leaves them with a mountain to climb.

Group D France 0.15/1 Draw 6.25/1 Bosnia & Herzegovina 17.5/1

France were pre-tournament favourites to win the Euro's but after coming through the group with 1 win and 2 draws they were knocked out by Switzerland in a penalty shoot out. Their World Cup qualifying campaign is in good shape with a 4 point lead over Ukraine. A 1-1 draw at home to Ukraine was followed by wins against Kazakhstan (2-0) and the first clash with Bosnia (1-0) where Griezmann scored the only goal of the game.

Aside from the home defeat to France, Bosnia drew their only other qualifier 2-2 in Finland and they didn't contest the Euro's.

Group F Denmark 9/20 Draw 3.25/1 Scotland 6.25/1

Denmark reached the semi's of the Euro's where they lost to England at Wembley. They have won all 3 of their WC qualifiers, in Israel (2-0), home to Moldova (8-0) and in Austria (4-0) and they top this group 4 points clear of their opponents here.

Scotland were also involved in the Euro's, playing out a 0-0 draw with England at Wembley either side of defeats to Czech Rep (2-0) and Croatia(3-1) and they failed to make the knockout rounds. In earlier WC qualifiers they drew at home to Austria (2-2) and in Israel (1-1) before a 4-0 home win over the Faroes.

Wednesday bets:

Personally the above matches make little appeal and I would battle to make a case for a surprise so my fall back position of 2-3 goals in total at odds of around 9/10 comes to mind, albeit for interest only purposes.

The trickier betting contests come in Group H including Russia, who take on Croatia and Slovenia who host Slovakia. That group is topped by Russia but after 3 rounds of matches 5 teams are covered by just 3 points so perhaps there is at least 1 draw there with 22/10 the odds of reward.
