thecitizen_banner To start with thanks for the concern shown after last week’s column describing my worst ever betting weekend. Well actually there was just the one e-mail but not to worry Mom I will be just fine, thanks for caring.

thecitizen_banner I love Super Rugby season and for me there are few things more enjoyable than sitting on the couch watching and betting on match after match. I also enjoy getting away with the family though and that usually means a trade off which sees me sacrifice some rugby for relaxation.

thecitizen_bannerThis column generally gets written shortly after sunrise on a Tuesday morning and after a great weekend of Super Rugby (during which I showed a profit in every match for the 1st time in memory) it was all set to have a very positive feel about it.

thecitizen_banner We are only 2 weeks into the Super Rugby season and from a punting perspective I have already experienced a rollercoaster ride of note.

thecitizen_banner I made one of my regular appearances on “Betting World with Neil Andrews” last week and Neil knowing how excited I get about Super Rugby asked me what my wife Trish thought about the upcoming rugby marathon. I jokingly replied that our discussions would probably be taking place through attorneys and while that is hopefully stretching it, the fact is that 125 games over 21 weekends is going to see me having to do some serious time management.

thecitizen_banner If I showed the same amount of discipline in my sports betting as I do with my diet I would no doubt be living on the street by now.

thecitizen_banner I usually tap this column out with some serious enthusiasm but this week the fingers are moving a bit slower than usual. The reason quite simply was my worst weekend of sports betting ever and it is fair to say that when people talk of the brilliant Masters victory of Charl Schwartzel in future years, a shiver will go down my spine as I recall how it all went wrong in the second week of April 2011.

thecitizen_banner When you bet on as much sport as I do you are bound to make an occasional error when submitting your bets and this weekend my complacency cost me a tidy packet.

thecitizen_bannerLet me start this weeks column with good news and that is that I had a really enjoyable camping weekend at Buffelspoort with the family and despite only watching a single game I managed to claw back most of the previous weeks losses.

thecitizen_banner At the end of every football season you hear about the little old lady who stuck 2 pounds on an accumulator with a UK bookmaker and managed to correctly pick the winners of 15 different leagues catapulting her to millionaire status.

thecitizen_banner I have written before about the importance of information and how getting key facts early can give you the edge over the bookmakers. I recall getting an SMS weather update from a mate 30 minutes before kickoff of a Super 14 game in Sydney which confirmed the rain had arrived and saw me cancel plans to have a bet that required loads of tries and points.
