I read a fascinating book over the December holidays. It was called “Swimming with the Devilfish” and it profiled some of the UK’s top poker players. It has always amazed me that gamblers, myself included, spend more time describing “bad beats” or heavy losses than victories. Many an hour is wiled away talking about the last minute try that thwarted a big rugby punt or the horse that was given a terrible ride and cost us a 5 figure Pick 6 payout.

I always bet bigger than usual on the Nedbank Challenge and this past renewal was no exception.. Strange thing is though I am not sure whether to be seriously annoyed at not cleaning the bookmakers out or relieved that they did not do likewise to me? Let me explain.
