It pays to be an early bird in the Super 14! Print E-mail

With bookmakers pricing up earlier than ever on major sporting events the sports bettor is often torn by when to place his bets. The most popular option for me is to wait until just before kickoff which means I have plenty of time to take things like climatic changes and any late team news into account. {readmorelink}Read more{/readmorelink}

Time to fix that leak! Print E-mail

I read a fascinating book over the December holidays. It was called “Swimming with the Devilfish” and it profiled some of the UK’s top poker players. I was particularly interested in the tale of one of the older generation who despite being a great card player seemed to always be living close to the breadline without ever having accumulated any significant assets. {readmorelink}Read more{/readmorelink}

So close to losing a fortune on Kallis! Print E-mail

It has always amazed me that gamblers, myself included, spend more time describing “bad beats” or heavy losses than victories. Many an hour is wiled away talking about the last minute try that thwarted a big rugby punt or the horse that was given a terrible ride and cost us a 5 figure Pick 6 payout.

There are few things in life more exciting than collecting on a bet in a nail biting finish like a golf playoff or a last minute drop goal, but sometimes it is nice to sit back with the pressure off and “win easy”.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry! Print E-mail

I always bet bigger than usual on the Nedbank Challenge and this past renewal was no exception.. Strange thing is though I am not sure whether to be seriously annoyed at not cleaning the bookmakers out or relieved that they did not do likewise to me? Let me explain.

I have never bet on credit and this week in a strange way I felt the benefits of that policy.

This past weekend we saw one of the most amazing Super 14 rugby games ever. The rugby was poor but the fact that there were 137 points in the Lions v Chiefs game meant there was certainly plenty of entertainment. {readmorelink}Read more{/readmorelink}

The Super 14 starts in just over 2 weeks and the prospect of 7 rugby matches a weekend has me very excited indeed. While many South Africans will reserve their interest to matches involving local sides I will be studying each game as I look for that shred of evidence or knowledge that will give me an edge over the bookmakers. {readmorelink}Read more{/readmorelink}

If I did not think there was skill to sports betting I would have thrown in the towel many years ago. I love to do my research and study the odds before betting but that being said there are times when you have to sit back and acknowledge that you have enjoyed some serious luck along the way. {readmorelink}Read more{/readmorelink}

If on the 30th of December 2008 you had asked me whether or not I had made money from my sports betting I could not only have answered you but also given my nett position to within a few rand either way.

Take advantage of “Bookmakers Lag” Print E-mail

When the Springboks lost to Ireland at Croke Park I resigned myself to the fact that there would be no more rugby betting for me until the Super 14. Last Friday morning though I came upon a thread in our Betting Forum started by my regular radio show guest RuggaBugga which suggested bets on the IRB 7’s taking place in George.

The pain of a last minute defeat! Print E-mail

Most sports punters love a good multiple bet which when it arrives can result in big profits for a small stake. Two weeks ago for example I wanted an interest in the Sunday action but was not keen to give back Saturday’s hard earned profits. I selected 4 results which consisted of 2 rugby bets in Europe, Chelsea to beat Man United and Hull and Stoke to draw and put R100 on at 22/1.
