Have a bet on the Royal Wedding! Print E-mail

I am sure there are many husbands that are dreading handing the remote control to their better halves on Friday. It is of course the “Wedding of the Century” with Prince William and Kate Middleton finally tying the knot.

Before you make plans to play golf or anything else that will keep you from having to sit through a painfully slow moving 7 hours, consider having a punt or two on the big day. I have and my interest in the events on 29 April is fast turning me into a Royal Wedding expert.

An article from UK based Alan Moscrop on Goodforthegame alerted me to the number of betting markets available and since then I have been looking for the edge over the bookmakers.

My main interest is that there will be rain on the big day and the 5/2 I got with Voltbet looks a pretty decent price as there has generally been some poor weather about. I also followed the overseas money that viewership would be lower than some anticipate and have taken 16/10 that it will be under 21 million with Sportsbet.

There are many markets to choose from though and Alan for example likes the Queen to wear a yellow hat at 18/10 and he has also taken some 15/10 that Kate’s Mom will be captured crying during the service and if you reckon Prince Charles will shed a tear there is 20/1 on offer.

Chelsy Davy is 14/1 to catch the bouquet and James Blunt’s “You’re Beautiful” is 5/1 to be the song they do their first dance to. There has been some interest in Kate’s arrival time at the church with a few speculators banking on things to go wrong and taking 9/2 she arrives more than 12 minutes late.

For the real skeptics out there you can get 100/1 that Kate leaves William at the altar and for those looking to the future how about the 9/10 their first child is a boy or the 4/6 that the first pregnancy is announced in 2012?

Back to the reception and beef is the 7/10 favourite to be the main course but bookmakers report little interest on the 100/1 that McDonalds or KFC are chosen by the bride.

It’s not quite Super Rugby but have a punt on the wedding and you will be surprised at how interested you become.
