I started writing sports betting previews over 5 years ago and I have often been asked why I feel the need to share my views rather than just betting on the selections myself?
Straight up I can confirm that all selections are punted and with regards to why I write previews and a weekly Best Bet* e-mail I can explain as follows:
First and foremost I enjoy educating others on sports betting by showing them that through doing your homework and a disciplined approach to managing your bankroll you can not only add to your viewing enjoyment but make money as well.
I also have a dream to grow the Goodforthegame website into something significant over time and there is no doubt a bit of ego involved as well as watching the market shift on the back of one of your tips is quite satisfying.
The fact that I am putting my selection out there for all to see does add pressure that would not otherwise be there though and the Currie Cup final was a case in point.
My main bet was taken early last week and I sung from the rooftops that backing less than 47.5 points with www.victorchandler.co.za at 9/10 was the punt of the final. I like to back my plays up with reasoning and noted that the last 5 Head to Heads between the Sharks and WP in Durban had averaged 39 points but more pertinent was that no playoff match in the Shark Tank since 2005 had reached 48 points and the 5 games averaged just 33 points.
Needless to say I and many others climbed in and the price quickly moved from 9/10 to 6/10 with Victor Chandler. Now all it had to do was arrive.
Settling down to the game it did not long for nausea to descend upon me as the points flowed freely and with 33 before the break I was staring down the barrel in the spreads and was just plain embarrassed by my pick.
The 2nd half though was a different affair and when Burger turned down early points I knew I was in with a shout and began cheering every thumping tackle, knock on and collapsed scrum.
The match ended with 40 points and while it was not my biggest win the fact that it came from a seemingly hopeless situation makes it one of the sweetest!
