Horse racing thread Tues to Sunday
Action takes a bit of step back to normal standards following the brilliant J&B Met card. Racing comes from -
Tues - Vaal Sand and Greyville night meeting,
Wed - Durbanville in the Cape,
Thurs - back to Vaal on the turf this time,
Fri - PE racing from Fairview and Dubai racing at Meydan,
Sat - Kenilworth and Turffontein cards,
Sun - Greyville day meeting to end the weekend.
Might be swerving the Vaal tomorrow and will be focussing on the Greyville card, although happy to be tempted on Vaal by some fellow horse racing punters!
Your thoughts and picks more than welcome as always.

Hey South
Had a look at the Greyville Card, looks like a real toughy and I have decided for now just to take a PA for percentage, think i could pay tonight and wouldn't be surprised to have c/o in Pick 6 tonight. Well thats just my opinion.
Happy punting.

Re: Horse racing thread Tues to Sunday
Hi guys, a little busy on the work front but have gone through the card, I agree with KT, is quite a tough one. Anyway I like the following.
Best Bet
Race 5, Read My Heart @ 5/2. Excellent 3rd last time out, will be cherry-ripe for tonight and gets preferred good going over a distance that should be perfectly suited. Strong stable/jockey combo and a decent enough draw, RMH has raced in better company than this and can hopefully get it right tonight.
Outsider Bet
Race 3, Persian Sun @ 40/1. From the dangerous Scott/Yeni combo, she’s not yet produced the goods on the track but is a full sister to a Grade 2 placed filly and has been supported in betting on numerous occasions. She bumps into her weakest opposition to date here, and was only 2L behind today’s favourite Constitution last time out, who is as short as 3/1 in the following race tonight. Will take a gamble she’s got ability and might show up today – 40/1 small win and place 8/1.
Eeach-way value Bet
Race 9, Metro Man. Very well related gelding, ran a poor run out of maidens last time out but had run behind some good sorts in past and I can only thing something was amiss that night. Get’s 4kg claim today, perfect inside draw. I fancy this one to bounce back and like the 10/1 each way.
Might try find a couple others on the card. Break a leg with the PA kt.

Shot South, Glad to see we one same page, both your selections in Race 5 and 3 in my PA and bankered Metro Man. Well lets hope for acouple of nice outsiders to com in.
All the best.

Re: Horse racing thread Tues to Sunday
Nice call on RMH South and KT. IJ in race one seemed pretty obvious, with no value, put him in combo with NE for the win in race 8, my only bet today aside from Constitution, who was a loss.

Apparently it was a static electricity problem at the starting gates. Both horses and jockeys affected

Re: Horse racing thread Tues to Sunday
Thats harsh Dawied, I saw there were no results for race 7, thought the rest of the meeting had been abandoned due to a storm or something, then the results for race 8 came through. I seem to recall something similar happening with static before somewhere quite a while ago.
Did anyone see race 8? Did NE dominate or was it quite close? I reckon he could be in contention for the horses to watch thread, could be a few races untill his MR catches up with his potential.

Lodar NE won as he liked 4-5 lengths. Jack Hobbs had a terrible fall in race

Re: Horse racing thread Tues to Sunday
well done with Northern Emperor Dawie, agree, sounds like he could become a very smart sort.
I only listened to commentaries now, didn't see what happened in race 7 with stalls issue and sorry to hear about the Jack Hobbs incident.
Managed to come out up despite Metro Man not running a race despite coming in for solid betting support. Maybe next time, he pulled too hard by sounds of things.
Well done today lads.

Re: Horse racing thread Tues to Sunday
Morning racing fans,
Durbanville today, I like the following.
Best outsider
Race 3, Eden Rose @ 25/1. Tries the 1600m for first time, been racing over sprints most of career. She has the best formlines by a mile in this small field – multiple winners coming out of some of her earlier career starts including Graded company. She’s was placed in 2 of last 3 runs, gets normal stable jockey this time round instead of apprentice. Stable had a nice winner on Met day, am hoping ER has some ability over longer trip. This is not a strong field – Gold Academy is favourite but faded badly in last start and I can’t be taking 5/10 on her.
Best Bet
Race 4, Premium Wood @ 13/20. Excellent run last time out, this field looks at his mercy and can get out the maidens here. Not a huge price so will take him into a double with a later race. I also like the exacta, Premium Wood / Air Patrol, which i'll take boxed to be on safer side.
Each way Bet
Race 7, Lord Paramount e/w @ 9/2, 8/10 places. Classy sort who’s a course and distance winner, ran in a hot MR80 race last time out when 4th behind Northern Conquest who won a top handicap on Met day on the weekend. Looks a very solid place bet, going medium @ 8/10 as smaller punt on the win @ 9/2.
Will add Lord Paramount places onto Premium Wood win for a 19/10 double.

Backed Lord Paramount win and Eden Rose e/w.
Been away from kb to now just checked balance to see LP won nice one South.

Re: Horse racing thread Tues to Sunday
Cheers Batrico, was a decent day, only poor bet was the exacta in the 4th which in hindsight wasn't the right strategy.
Lord Paramount win @ 9/2 a good way to end interest on card plus the 19/10 double. Must mention Charles who put up LP a couple weeks ago when he won in his penultimate start, remembered that when making selection.

Re: Horse racing thread Tues to Sunday
Hi to South and the other ardent racing fans. I've been snowed under with work the past 3 days to meet an important Friday deadline. Just took a quick breather and had a quick squizz at the Vaal card. Sorry I missed out on some of winners this week - well done to South for finding a few value bets and to the winners who followed these fine tips.
My fancies for tomorrow:
Best Bet: Wagner @ 11/10 - top last win when beaten the very good Bluroute and had Eurosilver and Zambucca (both subsequent winners) behind him. Top formlines behind Potala Palace and when winning maiden from which 3 winners have come including Crown Heights (x3 wins). Handy galloping weight, Muzi takes the ride again, has tremensous scope for improvement and I have a feeling W will give the field a galloping lesson. I recommend a medium-sized win bet.
Value bets: Moon of Rangoon @ 28/10 has 3rd run after a rest after 2 very good runs against top sorts over 1200m, now steps up to 1400m which should perfectly. Previously top class juvenile form behind top sorts like Straw Market and Fighting Warrior. Joint highest MR so makes MoR joint best weighted horse in race. Marwing takes rides from JP and with a good outside draw, MoR should be very competitive. I recommend a medium-sized win bet.
Value bet: Princess Lily @ 5/1 beautiful grey filly who has had 3 very good runs over sprint distances, where she just seemed slightly outpaced. Now steps up to 1400m and being by Spectrum should suit her very nicely. Backed in her last run, which is indicative of stable confidence. From A.Laird stable who had a few winners lately and JP takes the ride. I recommend a medium-sized e/way - 12/10 a place looks like a good bet.
I'm sticking these 3 in ATC win bet @ 47/1 and also PL (place); W (win) and MoR (place) @ 6/1.
These 3 run in first 3 legs of the jackpot, so I'll banker them and play the field (unless the forumites can recommend a banker in the last) for the straight line. My gut says Express View, so straight line - 4 x 10 x 4 x 10 or alternatively 4 x 10 x4 x F (R14)
Good punting

Hi Charles, great to have your thoughts again mate! Well thought out picks, really Like the look of Wagner, kept seeing him in a lot of formlines from recent weeks. Heard a word that Muzi not riding as precaution after nasty fall at Greyville, but Fradd is free and has ridden Wagner before so can step in if Muzi is definitely out.

nice on HB Dante, on reflection the formlines were superb! That Heavy Metal maiden race is providing winner after winner.

Well done to Dante for finding the winner in the first.
Disappointing day for me - should have stayed focused on my work commitments. No post-mortems, but key an eye on both PL and MoR over slightly further trips.
Only a few bets for tomorrow at Fairview:
Best bet: Copper Parade @ 15/10
Best double: Copper Parade and Act of Supremeacy @ 2.9/1
Best value: Azcan @ 9/2 and 19/20 a place
Treble: CP/AoS and A @ 20/1
Good punting

Re: Horse racing thread Tues to Sunday
stiff today Charles, some odd results.
I feel Copper Parade price won't last - fancied him for 3rd in the Cape Flying last time out, still ran well enough behind VDR. Amazingly in that small field he got blocked for a run, perhaps could have snatched 3rd or 4th. Class above these, in good form, and actually started career in PE. 15/10 a steal.

Hi racing fans,
Like the following ATC at Meyan -
R2 IP Man win
R3 Gamilati win
R4 Humidor place (4 plc)
R5 Hitchens place (4 plc)
works out to 5/1 ATC.

Re: Horse racing thread Tues to Sunday
My fancies for the day:
Turffontein:
I'm sticking to two horses that I posted in horses to watch thread - Extra Zero and Brooks Club. I'll try the double @ 8/1. My other fancy is a horse that's made me a few quid in it's last 2 runs - Meadow Magic @ 8/1. The treble works out to 78/1. My swinger and exacta bet is Extra Zero and another winner from 2 weeks back, Shadows in the Sun.
Kenilworth:
Coetzee seems to have a really good card of rides. I really fancy the double early on: Taj Mahal Trip and Jet Explorer @ 13/10. Thereafter, I'll be looking for trebles and fourfolds with Coetzee's other good mounts e.g. Annie be Quick; Winter Heart and Rush to John and one of my roughies for the day, Mystere @ 10/1. My other roughie is Abbey Creek @ 14/1.
Good punting

Re: Horse racing thread Tues to Sunday
Going to focus on the better looking Turffontein card today, some very nice graded races, my fancies as follows.
Race 8
Top class field 3yr olds here, this race has produced some excellent winners in past. I'm going to dip into the 'horses to follow' thread here and going with Brooks Club @ 4/1. BC is a runner that Charles put up in the horses to follow thread after being caught way too far back last time out, only to fly up at the end and just fail to catch those in front of him. Needed that run and had finished an excellent 3rd before then behind Astro News, who went on to run with real credit in the Met last weekend. Striker takes the ride today which is eye catching. The danger can come from a number of horses here, Heavy Metal from the Fradd yard looks to the upgrade and is highly regarded by stable. But will stick with Brooks Club here, 4/1 the win and 8/10 places.
Race 9
My best bet here - Up Above @ 3.57/1 looks a cracking bet in my opinion. Made his debut 3 weeks ago, was slowly away and an absolute mile turning for home, flew up for 4th. Formline decent from that race with a few comiong out to place already, I'm not fussed that Fradd is not up, feel this is a little reward ride for stable work jockey Chad Little. The favourite Captain Vedici has had his chances to get out maidens and keeps finding one too good, hoping it's Up Above again today.

Dante. I'm cautious about 6-legged ATC bets, but on paper it looks like your bet can't miss and 10/1 looks good value. Good luck and enjoy the track.

Re: Horse racing thread Tues to Sunday
Turf Race 7
Best Outsider - Orbit War @ 16/1. Bang in form KZN raider from the Kethro yard. He's tried raiding up here before but didn't quite pan out, I'm banking on him faring far better this time round. OW has hit a purple patch with two eye-catching wins in his last two runs. This is a big step up in class but you don't make this trip if the horse isn't in with a shout. Going e/w.
Turf Race 4
Best Each-way bet - Irish Gift @ 5/1 win, 9/10 places. Has 4th run after long rest, ran in a very hot race last time, not disgraced. Has won over the inside track before and takes on a weak field here, only Winter Union to beat in my opinion. But IG looks a typical Ferraris runner, given time to find form again and in this field I feel the e/w looks a great shout.

taking a leaf out of Dante's book, i'm trying this short priced ATC in first few races at each centre -
K1 - Taj Mahal Trip win
K2 - Daily Flight place
K3 - Shoes & Company place
T1 - Speed Dial place
T3 - Tigers Retreat place
ATC @ just over 5/1.

no sort of run form TMT, managed a small e/w bet on the first pick Speed Dial of ATC at Turffontein but overall dissapointed with TMT.
On that note i'm limiting myself to just a small straight line PA in the Cape -
Leg 1 : Race 3 [2]
Leg 2 : Race 4 [9]
Leg 3 : Race 5 [3]
Leg 4 : Race 6 [1]
Leg 5 : Race 7 [2]
Leg 6 : Race 8 [3]
Leg 7 : Race 9 [6]

Hardlines yesterday guys, seemed like a tough days racing.
Decent card at Greyville today:
I am going with a straight line PA today:
2/1/1/7/3/5/4
Yes I know its not outsiders really but hoping for a decent payout. I have heard good things about Sauna Rose in Race 7 from the connections, they will apparently be backing it large, but will wait to see the money before making a decision.
All the best guys.

Re: Horse racing thread Tues to Sunday
cheers KT, not the best of days yesterday, thankfully one of the best bets came in to ensure a slight profit for day. Greyville today, like the following.
Race 6
Excuse My French @ 4/1. Steps back up to 1400m, course and distance winner and clearly likes the Greyville track. Was good enough to run in the KXN Guineas and i'm prepared to draw a line through last run when nowhere near capability. Has good pace, a nice draw and fancy EMF to skip clear with the tailwind and hold off the favourite Ransom Of Choice, who might find this trip a touch on the sharp side.
Race 8
Ice Axe @ 9/4. A real GoodfortheGame faovurite, have been on Ice Axe plenty in past and he's been very kind. Very consistent type, been out top 3 just once in career. 1600m trip is perfectly suited and apprentice will take 4kg off, which I feel is needed given his merit rating and top weight. Indian Hawk looks the biggest danger and could be worth adding into swingers with Ice Axe.
Race 3
Very weak field of struggling sorts, will take a chance on the first timer Opera Lass @ 20/1, small stakes. Well related to some decent types such as Grade 2 placed Grafton Street and Aim High, she might find this trip a bit sharp but in such a poor field if she shows ability she can pop up.

Leg 2 : Race 6 [2, 5, 6, 7]

Ice Axe continues to just keep giving back, yet another win today and ends the day on a nice winning note. Also got the swingers with Indian Hawk.
Unfortunately the tactic on the Jackpot didn't pay off, caught but needed an upset in 5th race but favourite won, meant a small R70 loss on perm.
Back next week, the postponed PE meeting takes place tomorrow, then straight into Vaal and Greyville on Tuesday.
