Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

Ok guys Monday night rugby and therefore Monday night punting is back with the Varsity Cup getting rolling next week.

Hollywood are out with betting and go
17/10 Maties
5/2 Ikey's
6/1 and better the balance

They have also put together an Outright preview which is well worth a read
http://blog.hollywoodbets.net/2012/02/v … eview.html

I tend to agree with the writer @DevinH21 that Maties could be the business

Methinks Tuks at 7 to 1  big value. Then again I too am biased as Tuks is my Alma Mater

I think UJ are a great price at 8-1! Huge value! "Wors" Kotze after a great RWC with Namibia he will be full of confidence and be rearing to go! The rest of their side is very solid also! With 2 points Penalties and 3 points for a conversion it will help having an Ace kicker such as "Wors" for those wide out tries!

I am going 5 units UJ and will look to hedge slightly should they make the final!

On Tuks they are going to miss Heyneke so much! He was a massive influence there last year and I feel with him missing they will be lost! They tend to all play more for themselves than as a team which ultimately cost them the VC last year!

Re: Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

Looks like everyone is making a case for their teams, then I will have a go at Pukke 16/1. To be honest, I dont actually any of the other teams have as much players that have played Currie Cup than Pukke.

Spearheaded by Joubert Engelbrecht (yes, he is also the Leopards Currie Cup captain) and Hennie Skorbinski , will make a really big centre combination, both being the centres in the Currie Cup. Also with Phillip de Wet, Strand Kruger and couple more, they will certainly be business. Yes the Leopards finished last, but playing against quality opposition week in and week out will certainly benefit playing against Varsity cup opposition.

Final argument, Pukke played 2 warm up games, against UJ and Kovsies and won both. They will definitely be there or there about, Rudy Joubert getting fired last year and now with coaches that are doing their business.

Lets not forget, Pukke is currently the Club Champs winner. That will definitely be a big boost. For 16/1, I really think it is worth a nibble..

King your case for Pukke is very convincing especially at 16 to 1. Will throw a unit or two

Re: Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

UCT -9.5 against Shimlas is the only cap Ive managed to find thus far Brent and that's with Hollwood
Would prefer to see what others price this one up before making a move

Re: Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

UCT v Shimlas
Last match was Semi-Final last season where UCT thumped the Shimlas 57-20!
Shimlas without last season's Captain Willie Britz and winger Ulengo.

Tuks v UJ
BetX have it a choice match. I reckon Tuks win it and thats my only bet for the day!

Great spot RB,
Hollywood have them as low as 5/10 on the outright!

Re: Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

Hi Guys, I see WSB has its prices up.

UCT -11.5
Maties -30.5
Pukke -13.5
Tuks -4.5

all 9/10

I still think UCT is good for the 12 points as well as the Pukke for 14 points with all those Leopards (Former PUK boy) and out of loyalty have taken them to win the cup as well.

Re: Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

I took 8 units on Tuks to win at 9/10

Took some cover on the UJ +7.5 at Volties for 4 units as word on the street is that the UJ side are quite decent this year!

Had Tuks by 10 in my Superbru but will take a 1-7 win now tongue

Re: Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

I managed to get Tuks a at evens with Sportsbet before the line shifted. Also took some of the 9/10 at Betxchange. Hoping Tuks can do the job tonight.

Also on UCT -9.5 and Maties -28.5. Played the double for 2 units.

My tournament bet is Maties at 5/2 for 8 units.

Re: Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

I saw that the 9 / 10 combo for UJ are Guy and Ross Cronje. Both have played for the Sharks in the past few years. Had no idea these players would be eligable for varsity cup games? Not complaining as I went for UJ by 5 on Superbru....  tongue

Re: Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

I have taken the following:

8units UJ +7.5
5units MMU +15.5
3 units Maties -31.5

There has been some heavy rain IN PTA and it does not look conducive to good running rugby! I feel UJ forwards play with a lot more guts and I think this will be a very close game!

MMU have had a good pre season and I really fancy them at home here. Yes Pukke are a good side but I feel MMU will hold them close here.

Maties possibly the best side vs the worst side in the VC and I think 31.5 can be easily reached especially with 3 point a conversion the points should add up very quickly!

Re: Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

Great to see a lot of interest on here. I know zero about Varsity Cup myself, so just following general vibe with this treble -

Tuks win
Pukke -12.5
Maties -31.5

1.5 unit treble @ 9/2.

Re: Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

well done lads, some nice punts landed there tonight, seems we have some Varsity Cup shrewdies on the forum, good stuff.  beersmiley

NMMU late fightback killed the acca but no complaints, very enjoyable stuff following on Twitter.

Re: Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

The big shock was Shimlas destroying Ikeys away - Ikeys could barely win a lineout and the coach can hang his head in shame. I lost 2.5 units in running on them but Maaties arrived easily and a small profit on the night. Well done Tuks backers.

Must say its strange to see scores like 16-2 in rugby

Re: Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

Ye well done Tuks backers! I still feel that UJ +7.5 was a golden bet, managed to dominate most of the first half and went into hut at 18-0 down. Second half their finishing was just terrible but I thought they could surely score a try vs 14 men to make my cap a winner! Was not to be!

First time I have seen Cronje play and I must say I fail to see what all the fuss is about! I thought he was extremely average even making a mistake like not finding touch from a penalty 3 times. I think this UJ side will be a good side when Kotze is off the injured list!

Look forward to next weeks games!

Ikeys were simply shocking
Was frustrating to see them butcher one oppportunity after another. Shimlas took full advantage of their weak defence, three debutants in the back was most likely the cause for their lack of cohesion.
May take some time for this side to settle.

Re: Varsity Cup - Monday nights will never be the same

That Tukkies odds was just a gift. Never in doubt. Agree that the handicap of 7.5 was to big though. Very unlucky not to get that. Fearless, agree 100% regarding Cronje. Doesn't look special at all.

UCT very dissapointing. They have plenty to work on and Shimlas deserved the win. Nick Farrar (UCT scrumhalf) needs to get the boot though. He is a big liability in the team. He takes an age to get the ball away behind the ruck/scrum. His defence around the fringes is also very bad. Not ti mention spilling the ball with an open try line.

Maties off to a solid start and I'm very happy with the 5/2 I got on them. From what I've heard, Pukke not a very good team this year and NMMU a bit better than previous years.

Love this Varsity Cup! Lots of money to be made, as bookies are not to clued up. Reckon we might wait a bit on caps next week as the bookies will be nervous to come out first with caps after the Tuks carnage. Whoever comes out first though can expect action from me.
