Varsity Cup Round 7

Varsity Cup Round 7

Its Week 7. Fixtures and Mbets/WorldofSport caps:
Pukke +20.5 v Maties -20.5
UCT -12.5 v Tuks +12.5
TUT -20.5 v NMMU +20.5
Shimlas -6.5 v UJ +6.5

BetX only priced up at 3pm last week Monday and thats too long to wait to make a bet wink

I have really enjoyed the Varisty Cup from a betting perspective (Lot more than the Super14 wink ) and here is my verdict for Monday

Tuks are out of the semi places, Maties have a home Semi irrespective of the results this week. Pukke, UJ, UCT and Shimlas are fighting for the other 3 spots.
Pukke v Maties
Pukke are hitting form at the right time after their win against TUT last week, they have to beat Maties to secure 2nd spot. Maties do not need a win and I think 20.5 points is way too high. Its in Potch and Pukke (Losing finalists in 2009) will want revenge against Maties, yes Maties are going for a record 7th win but I think the Puk will have much more motivation! The Puk wins and they get a home semi, they may lose but never by 21 points! Last years final result was Maties 11 - Pukke 6 (Not even 21 points in the whole match!!!) The other result was a 27-15 win for Pukke!

15 units on Pukke +20.5 – Go the Puk!

Re: Varsity Cup Round 7

No bets yet for the other games yet, will wait and see the result for the Maties game. If Pukke cause an upset, then I will go for UCT -12.5 against Tuks as Ikeys will need a 4 try bonus point to get that 2nd spot, if Maties win then UCT will only need a win to grab 2nd spot.

Shimlas v UJ is an interesting one, its effectively a quarter final. I am leaning on the UJ+6.5. UJ won the corresponding fixture 44-8 last year ...

Last game is the fight to give away the wooden spoon! TUT v NMMU wont be the best rugby, NMMU beat TUT last year and TUT will be looking for revenge, leaning towards TUT -20.5 but no bet as yet.

Lets see how BetX price up ...

Re: Varsity Cup Round 7

Thanx for the insite RB, I am all over the Puk... Just feel they are peaking at the right moment, where Maties are hopefully going to struggle.. Had a small punt on them lifting the trophy aswell at 14/1.. Hopefully big game tonight.. My other multiple with Puk is on TUT.. NMMU is horrible as we saw last week, and they even lost their "inspirational skipper".. Jeez, if he wasn't that inspirational they probably would have lost by 130 against UJ.. Anyway, believe TUT is just going to be all over them, they certainly don't want to play in the promotion/relegation match.. Shimlas UJ look really difficult to call, as Shimlas have 3 players back and there is little to choose between them.. Going with the Puk aswell as multiple with TUT.. Come on you beauties..!!

Re: Varsity Cup Round 7

Cheers Tycoon, just need the Puk to deliver now!

Question with WSB and the Puk v Maties game:
They have Puk +14.5 at 1/1
Maties -17.5 at 1/1
and Draw at 8/1 - WTF is the a draw on those caps? Is that If Maties win by 15,16 or 17?

There is a slight drizzle here in Potch now, clouds all over.. Still a hour before kick off, can't maybe read too much into it, but expect under foot conditions to be wet..

Re: Varsity Cup Round 7

Love your work RB, Pukke could have won the game if they were better tactically and they took some shocking options. Bet trotted up though and a great start to the week  cool

Re: Varsity Cup Round 7

I was stuck in traffic for most of the game so thanks for the sms updates Brent! An amazing night as also I took 1 unit WSB for the draw (Maties by 15-17) at 7/1  big_smile. Was a little nervous rounding up the "Pukke Posse" but glad you boys got on  beersmiley

Did increase my Puk +20.5 punt but took TUT -20.5 so gave some back - A great evening nonetheless.

Results:
Pukke 17 Maties 33
UCT 38 Tuks 24
Shimlas 51 UJ 32
TUT 45 NMMU 40

So its NMMU with the wooden spoon and the Semi's and my handicap guessing as follows:
Maties -16.5 v Pukke
UCT -6.5 v Shimlas

Cant wait for the bookies to price up  drunksmiley

Re: Varsity Cup Round 7

I sent out the Pukke bet to my mailing list about an hour before kick off and one of the recipients who writes a number of blogs alerted me to his latest post

http://bettinghub.bundublog.com/2010/03 … rsity-cup/

In essence he says that for some reason betting on the varsity cup just seems wrong to him and that it should perhaps remain clear of betting influence. He also looks at the other angle which is that betting can help to generate interest and sponsorship.

An interesting read and knowing the writer well, not meant to shoot down those who bet on the varsity cup but rather offering some food for thought and perhaps debate.

I believe the line must be drawn somewhere but for me the Varsity Cup is not it  lol

My response below his post and I did suggest he would be unlikely to receive much support from this forum especially after the Pukke Posse arrived in style  wink

Re: Varsity Cup Round 7

Cheers Tycoon, I hardly ever bet on Liverpool (Its hard enough to support them!) but had a good feeling when I saw the teamsheets. Cant stand Lucas as a player and its annoying to see him and Mascherano in the midfield - 2 defensive minded players and one of the reasons we are so poor this season as Xabi Alonso had more attacking skill in his toenail then Lucas will ever possess. So I jumped on when I saw the attacking side, just hope Rafa leaves Lucas out for our trip to Old Toilet on Sunday!  footballsmiley

Pukke are legends, dont think they will have so many "supporters" that are happy to see them lose by 16 again  lol

As for the article Brent. I would much rather bet on a Sports event where I can judge the teams that the colour of someones tie  tongue
Sports punting is about doing the research and going with your gut feel. Most of the Varsity Cup players aspire to go pro and they will need to deal with the betting aspect so best to get used to it now!
Credit goes to the bookies who price up these games ... but after the Pukke Posse, their may not be betting available for Varsity Cup games anymore  tongue

Roll on Next Monday ...

Re: Varsity Cup Round 7

I agree with you 100% RB nothing wrong with Varsity Cup betting in my eyes and yes it is great that some of the bookies price up.

It did get me thinking where I would draw the line though and is the inspiration for this weeks Citizen piece  wink
